It's like a 6.5 0-60 car...not too slow, but not fast at all. Sadly I think the late 80's Mustang 5.0 GT's were the same 0-60 time.
I had a 1986 Mustang GT and the "official" 0-60 was 6.6s with 200bhp. 1987 models and newer 5.0 were 6.4s with 225bhp.
My ex once drove it daily for a week straight while her 06 Avalon XLS was at the dealer for the VVTi line busting. One night she came home with a big long depressing hug out of nowhere, nearly crying and apologizing and I'm like crap what happened is everything ok? She spilled to me her revelation that it's not just my perception like she had always insisted and rode my case about, but how she experienced first hand that people really are constant jerks toward that car no matter how you drive it.
It's just people being animals and needing to bully anything smaller or weaker than them to feel good about themselves, and a 2.2L Camry is pretty much the bottom of the food chain.
Not necessarily bottom either. Some want to "prove" themselves versus a supposedly faster car too. My wife occasionally tells me of her encounters since she got her 2011 WRX. Early on she would ask, "hey if someone keeps revving or speeding up/slowing down, what's going on?" Now she just laughs and moves on. AFAIK she's never raced anyone (though her Xmas present this year is a Beltronics RX65). She wanted the WRX because she wanted something sporty, peppier than her previous Mazda 3 and with AWD. Not only did she get everything she wished for, I got a weekend car out of the deal.
I don't know, but I bet if you dropped a 5.7L Hemi in there, it would help...
Help what? Do a Gymkhana on those 14" stock sized tires? That might make an entertaining Youtube video.
Oh yeah, and that theoatmeal comic was hilarious.
