Looks like 720p is a go, 1080p no go. Get the 2.1GHz iMac G5 (iSight) if you can. It also looks like you can pick up an Intel iMac (first gen Core Duo) 17" for around $400.

I agree the lamsphade form factor was awesome and the movable/adjustable screen would be great for a kitchen, but I don't think the G4 is powerful enough for HD video.

I tried googling, but I mostly got a bunch of older threads, and I was hoping for a more current analysis. But those links look reasonably promising. All the same, I will keep looking and waiting. Thanks for all the replies thus far.
 
The first gen Core Duo iMacs had a host of reliability issues as they aged, I would be cautious about those, and it likely dictates that $400 price.
