Hey all,

I am running a ~700MHz PIII...256MB of RAM with a G400 video card...will I see a big performance boost (3d) in switching to one of the origional Hurc Geforce2 MX retail cards?

Thanks,

Yes, you will see improvement. This Link showed that the G400 could even compare to the TNT2, so you definitely will see improvement for the Herc MX.

But a bit of advice, you are also going to see a drastic down grade of 2D from your Matrox. A really big one. I would suggest the Radeon LE instead of the Herc. It have better 2D, DVD playback and the same if not better 3D performance.

Yeah, the 2D is a concern for me...the deal is that I allready have the hurc on my machine at home. At work, there is the occasional game of late afternoon Quake, and I'm at a serious disadvantage with that G400---the MX card is a total bottleneck in my box at home, so I'm going to by a GF2 Pro or a Radeon for that box and just move the other over because I can...The 2D is a bit of a concern for me though, because I'm running on a nice big 21" Sony-based monitor at work...However, I figure the worst that will happen is that I will decide to keep the G400--I don't think it will be a problem though, because everyone else around the office runs the same or very similar monitors with GeForce2's (though most everyone else has Ultras as opposed to MXes).

Thanks,
