G400 availability

Is the Matrox G400 (especially the MAX) getting real popular? I can't find any in stock anywhere. Or is it that Matrox is having problems manufacturing them? I'm trying to find one for a friend. I've got a G200 myself and would like to upgrade myself sometime soon. Let me know any facts or rumors you have heard.

mwave.com has every flavor of g400 in stock. go to any computer show, and every vendor has em. i would suggest that if you look a bit harder you will find many. they come up on the fs/ft forum weekly as well.

dude. where have you been in the last 1 1/2 years? the G400's generation has come and gone. The manufaturing problems matrox had making the higher clocked G400 Max are long gone.

They aren't in huge numbers in retail outlets, compared to say, the voodoo 3's and Geforces. The Max's should be easier to find retail. But you should find both Max and normal versions easily online and in stores selling OEM parts.

I would like to see the G400 MAX and any Geforce2 MX out there, comparing FPS and quality that is given to the secondary monitor..

Too bad anand or other hardware sites don't offer that 'Compare these cards' that Shopper.com (c|net) does. I guess it wouldn't be hard to update the whole list (being as most people just use Quake III to clock cards.)

Is Unreal Tourney that old that people don't check the fps in it yet?

I was told by many computers stores in Toronto that Matrox has discontinued the G400 product line and replaced it with the G450 since it is cheaper to manufacture and sell. Matrox for now is not focusing on the gaming market and feel no need to keep the G400 line going.
