g4 Ti4200 64mb vs 128mb

What's the difference? Also, I heard the 64mb versions are just as good as the 128mb?

Whats the story behind these?

The 64mb version uses faster memory and is also clocked much higher (500mhz vs 440mhz), although my 64mb PNY ti4200 actually clocks at 513mhz. The only advantage of the extra 64mb is when you have a scenario where you're rendering a scene with lots of large textures. The extra memory would allow more elbow room in this case so the card doesn't have to swap as much the system RAM, thereby making gameplay smoother. The faster memory of the 64mb version is suppose to (in theory) compensate for the difference because it can swap out the textures much faster, but that doesn't always pan in all instances (although most of the time it does).

I got a gainward Ti 4200 with 128MB of 3.2ns ram 8x. All the new 8x ti 4200 cards have the 513Mhz memory bus that is 8GB of memory bandwidth. Just get the 128MB. 🙂

The 64 MB cards tend to outperform the 128 MB cards with slower memory on lower resolution benchmarks. However, as the resolution picks up and AA and aniso are introduced, the 128 MB cards generally regain the lead. Plus, as Intelman07 mentioned, some of the 128 MB cards have the faster memory now anyways. You'd probably be a little more "future proof" with the 128 MB card.
