G4 Mx vs Ti

Ok, I'm about to upgrade my graphics card.
Can I hear some recommendations on the Geforce 4 cards....Mx 440, 460 and Ti?

The MX's are their budget line; the Ti's are performance.
What kind of games are you looking to play? That, and budget, will determine which card to check out.

would unreal tourney 2003 run smooth on the mx? cuz the ti's are pretty expensive and if there isn't any significant quality improvement moving from mx to ti, then i'd probably settle for mx

Don't touch MX. If you are a nVidia fan go with the GeForce3 Ti 200. If ATi, go with ATI 8500 (not LE version) 64MB Graphics Card. Cheers!

You seem to be an Nvidia fan, try the Geforce3 Ti200 for $69 shipped on pricewatch.

I've got the gforce 3 ti200. UT2003 runs sweet at 800x600 and EVERYTHING cranked up (get CoolBits, its a clock and memory tweaker for your gforce card).
Stuff also depends on you cpu speed too. I have a p3 866MHZ with 768MB of sdram and the only
thing that doesnt run great is the doom3 leak (haha).

I agree about the MX. There is a huge difference between the MX and a ti. The ti4200s are really coming down in price, you should look for one of them.

I don't agree about the "(not LE version)" part refering to the 8500. the 8500le is a great card and is a better value than the 8500.

Wow, I didn't know there was such a difference between the Ti and Mx. My friends got a Mx and he reckons Ti's are a waste of money and no software really uses that much graphics power. But by the looks of things, Ti would be the way to go.

Your friend obviously hasn't run good-looking games w/ AA and AF cranked up...the Ti 4200 and GF3 Ti 200 are the best values. The MXs aren't absolutely pitiful, but like the GF2 MX cards, they are a dead end.

Yeah, ok...so currently i'm planning to get Gainward GeForce4 Ti4200 64Mb. That's good right?

Definately get either a GF4 4200ti or Radeon 8500LE or better. Don't even consider anything less if you wanna do any serious gaming now, much less in a year or two.

Yes, that is good You will be much happier with that card than any MX.

AA is Anti-Aliasing: Any technique for reducing the visual impact of aliasing, or the "jaggies," on a computer graphics system.

AF is Anisotropic Filtering: An advanced texture-filtering technique that improves image quality for scenes with objects that extend from the foreground deep into the background. For example, a road that extends to the horizon will look better with anisotropic filtering.

I'm basicallly sorted on the video card now = Gainward GeForce4 Ti4200 64Mb

Now, to work out my cpu, mobo, ram and monitor
