So Im able to get this wheel for $149 through my work, I have never had a wheel, just used gamepads for racing.

If you have this tell me what you think of it, also dose it make you a better racer?

One word: Quality. If you're into PC racing games definitely get it at that price. I paid $250 for mine and I haven't regretted it one second. I like mine so much I built a cockpit around it:

Wow Jason very nice cockpit, you have any other pics or design plans?

Oh and how old is your wheel and how is it holding up?

Sorry, I don't have a worklog. This was my first time building something like this so I was going on trial and error throughout the whole process. I basically determined how big (LxWxH) I wanted it, added my racing seat and went from there.

These were the only pictures I could dig up, if you want something specific I can take it for you.

View from front

Mounted Shifter

I removed the pedals from the Logitech base and mounted them inverted for a more realistic feel and to make it easier to heel and toe:
Pedals

The dimensions are 67"L x 36"W x 28"H.

Console height from cockpit floor is 14"H

Edit: I've had the wheel since around February of '07. It's seen heavy use (I play rFactor, Richard Burns Rally, GTR2, Grid, GTR Evolution, Dirt......) since then and it still works the same as it did when I first got it.

I had it for a few months till i sold it for a real manual trans car :p

you do need to have a playseat(they sell those) or make ur cockpit inorder to fully enjoy the driving experience. it does not feel good or right when you just mount it to a desk.

the gearbox feels too light... but everything else is decent. just wish they had a "real" hand brake.

That's one of the things I haven't got around to yet; building a handbrake. It's relatively simple, all you need is a real handbrake assembly, potentiometer, one of these and some patience. I have one of those controller boards with some toggle switches I use for things like ignition, starter and various other things inside each sim.

Thanks for the info Jason, did you build the box out of MDF oh and where did ya get the seat?

Just found this online, I think I might see if I can get a green light to not only buiding it but getting my wife to allow it to be sitting in my office :)

Yes, 3/4" MDF for everything except the bottom which is 1/2" Plywood with a 2x4" frame for the whole thing to sit on. This is the seat I used but any will do. You just have to build the mounts yourself. If you're good with a welder and a tape measure then a metal-framed cockpit would be the way to go if you need to move it around.

Good luck talking your wife into it. :)

Back to the OP, I have one and I don't have any additional hardware - it was still worth every penny. I get a ton of use out of it.
