Hello everyone. This is my second thread on this(as the first one must not have been very catchy).:)

Well, I'm about to do a video upgrade and one of the machines has a 32 meg Diamond V770 TNT2(non-ultra) card in it now. My dad is
running a 16 meg Matrox G200. I was considering giving the TNT2 to him for a video upgrade. How much performance would be gained
from a G200 to a TNT2? His rig is a P3 500. I'm just curious as to what you all think. I'd rather not go get another card so I'm just curious as
to whether or not the TNT2 would be a worthy upgrade for him. Thanks in advance!

In 3D graphics speed, TnT2 is noticeably faster than G200, but in 2D quality Matrox is superior...

Thanks for the reply! :) My dad plays some games like Serious Sam and Unreal Tournament occasionally so hopefully this will be a decent upgrade
for him.

The G200 is a tad slower than the original TNT. It came out about two or three months before.

I have an old G200TV Marvel (with extra video editing stuff). I once put in a TNT2 thinking it would improve my 3D. I played a lot of UT at that time, and believe it or not the TNT2 actually gave me lower FPS than the G200...

because the G200 drivers (or whatever) didn't draw half the shadows or effects or anything in UT (with the same game settings). The TNT2 looked a lot prettier, and I realized for the first time that you could actually hide in shadows in UT, but it was slower, so I took it back and kept my G200. Now that's just one game and maybe the drivers have improved. I don't know about Serious Sam.

And yes, the 2D is much sharper with better color than the TNT2...

YMMV
