I have upgraded my visiontek 32 mb GTS to a visiontek g3 Ti200 64mb.
On the GTS, only with 12.41 drivers, I got 140 fps in UT, on the G3 with 23.32, I can't get more than 60 fps.
I am running win98se on epox 8kha+, xp1700, 256 mb ddr, DX8.1. I used geforce tweak on fastest settings for the GTS and used nvmax to speed up the G3, 183/406 and even oc the cpu to 145 x 11 . Still no comparision in UT.
Am I doing somthing wrong or is it just in UT? My 2001se marks are 3112 on the GTS and 6898 on the G3, but UT won't come up to speed.
Please help, tell me I didn't waste my money on the G3.

You got 140 fps With a 32meg GTS card? At what resolution? How sure are you of that?

Anyways, as long as you have a cool system temperature if you really wanna overclock that video card, I run mine (same card) at 220/500...not for extended periods of time though (although I probably could)

and what resolution are you running the gf3 at?

detail levels?

antialiasing?

all these things can kill your fps.

I took the g3 card back out, I have the GTS back in now.
I am checking fps by checking the time demo statistics in the game. I dont' know if this is the best way to check or not, but it's the only way I know. I am running at 800 x 600 16 bit. High detail and high quality sounds, aa=2x. I am running CTF with 16 total players.
It starts out at 177 fps while waiting for all players to load then drops to 140 - 150 fps average. I realize this fps sounds very high, but that is what I get. If I use any newer version of drivers than the 12.41, I get much lower fps.
In bios, I have the agp set for 4x and 64mb. temp runs around 49 c.
If there is a more accurate method of checking the fps, please tell me.
This is with no OC on the vid card other than geforce tweak fast settings.

I am 99% sure you have vSync enabled when you've got the GF3 installed. That's why it's capping your framerate at 60...the same as your monitor's refresh rate during gaming. Disable vSync and you'll see your framerates skyrocket...of course, you may also get some tearing. For benchmarking, you always need to disable vSync.

I will put together another system tomorrow and try your suggestions. Right now my grandson is using the GTS.
I will try disabling vsync. I also lose the ability to adjust my monitors refresh rate when I install the g3 drivers. Do I need to install some additional SW to get this adjustment back?

your GTS is most likely running @ 800x600 and the GF3 1024x768 or higher. Check to compare apples to apples.

I believe UT configueres itself for optimal settings. The gf3 will probably default to 1024x768 @32bit and high details.

OK I have the G3 in another system, It is still an Epox 8kha+, xp 1700 512 mb ddr, only this has win2k pro on it. I changed the resolution in UT to 600 x 800, high detail and sound. all the settings are the same and I am again limited to 60 fps even with vsync off. It has the same symptoms as it did when it was on the win 98se system. Is anyone getting higher fps on a g3 tii 200 playing UT? The refresh rate on the monitor is 85 hz.

I get up to 400+ FPS (when standin up against a wall, granted!) with an overclocked Ti200 in UT.

It is almost definately a vsync thing. Check your monitor, is it set to 60Hz? If so, try changing it to 75 and retest. Do you get 75FPS? BINGO! Problem solved.

You owe me.

OK, but what fps do you get while you are playing the game?
Sorry but the refresh rate is set to 85hz now and the same monitor was used for each test at the beginning.
It is a gateway vivitron 2000, 15". The vsync does make a difference, but only about 20 fps.
The G3 is still much slower than the g2 with the 12.41 drivers.
I am sure it is some simple thing I am overlooking, but I woudl like to hear what fps others are getting so I will know what to expect.
At xmas, I also built my son a Gigabyte 7dxa ver 4.3 (something like that) with a t-bird 950 and the g2 gts and he is getting about 90 fps.
I must be missing something on setting up the g3..........

MY GTS was averaging about 110-120 FPS @ 800x600 in UT. My GF2TI450 averages about 120-125 @ 1024x768 in UT. Try changing to OpenGL in UT. In QIII, the GF2Ti450 averages well over 250fps.

Easiest way to get around the nVidia refresh rate problem is to use a utility called PowerStrip to lock in refresh rate for different frequencies. Or you can try to download the hacked 28.32 drivers that works with the nVidia refresh fix program. I find Powerstrip easiest to use. Just install it, set the frequencies you want. Uninstalling PowerStrip still leaves the changes in the registry on my machine.

>>averaging about 110-120 FPS @ 800x600 in UT<<
Thanks, I am glad to see someone else getting high fps in ut. I was expecting much more out of the G3, but I must be doing something wrong so far.

There's nothing wrong with your system or your settings it's just that the 2750s, 2752s and the 2832s are extremely slow in UT, both in OpenGL and Direct3D.

I normally get 114 FPS average at 1280 x 960 in the city flybuy on my GF3 Ti500 but when I use any of the aforementioned drivers my framerates struggle to get past 60 FPS average. And it's definitely not a vsync issue because my refresh rate is 100 Hz at that resolution.

Try any of the drivers earlier than the 2750s and you should be right. I personally recommend the 2312s.

Thanks BFG10k,
That would make sense, because I am getting good marks in 2001se, just no performance in UT.
I am using the Xtasy 6564, not the models you mentioned. Perhaps there is still a setup flaw.

I was using the 22.50's with my GF2 GTS successfully (and still use them for my GF2Ti450). I could update, but why fix what ain't broken.
