G0 Stepping

I just ordered a Q6600 from outpost.com, and it's backordered for 2 weeks. I'm wondering if I will get a G0 stepping. Does anyone on here have one yet? Is it worth cancelling my order and making sure I get one? Thanks! :)

Well you don't have to think too much about it to figure your odds of NOT getting a G0 have got to be higher the less time you wait between now and whenever you order your quad.

Since everyone in the enthusiast market wants G0's, and not too many non-enthusiast order quads from DYI computer parts sellers...I'd be willing to bet you are likely to get a quad from someone's inventory of non-G0'2 if you are letting them decide what to ship to you.

This is common sense though, right? I don't really need to post this, just wasting bandwidth I suppose.

So you're telling me that Fry's is going to cherry-pick the G0s and sell them to people that care? I somehow doubt that's the case.

Anyhow I'm thinking about switching my order to TankGuys.

Well that's kinda lame. Nowhere in my post did I say that, so why put the words in my mouth just to refute them?

Back on-topic, if you weren't the slightest bit concerned that what I did state might actually be true then you would not have started this thread in the first place, nor would you be switching your order to TankGuys. You clearly have your suspicions...

LOL. nice post both of you.

G0 (from what I have read and understood) will not be available until July 22nd when the price drop occurs and the new line of 6X50 chips are released and the quad line is "refreshed" with a new revision or unless you can get your hands on an ES Q6600 G0.

I agree here with Idontcare. It seems like you had your suspicions you wouldn't get one. :) As you said, just order one from tankguyz and you'll be guaranteed a G0.

Well, Fry's cancelled my order (they don't export intel products), and I think I'll just wait and find a G0 Q6600 locally after July 22.

Yes, the G0 Q6600 has a 95W TDP instead of 110W or so like the current stepping. It also has a higher maximum operating temperature as well as tends to run cooler. So far, the few who have been able to test a G0 chip have gotten up to 4.3Ghz or so on air for the dual-cores and in the high 3s up to around 4Ghz on high-end air with the quad-core parts.

Of course YMMV with actual retail parts, but it's pretty likely at this point that the G0 stepping is definitely better than the current chips, it's just a matter of to what degree.

How do you tell if you have a G0 ?

06FB CPUID instead of 06F7 for the B3 stepping. The Product Code on the box ends in SLACR instead of SL9UM from the B3 stepping.

Mark if you want to box product code its this:

Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.4 GHz): SL9UM (B3)

SLACR (G0);

Ack someone already posted it.... NM... i was late in responding... :\

naw jag87, that was just a guess. I really do want amd to be successful, this is kind of like poking fun at yourself to prevent everyone else from doing it. It's just so hard to get excited about anything that they have done lately.
hey, what's the diff btwn the cnps9700 led and cnps9700nt?

lol dude i was just joking. trying to lighten up the cpu forum.

NT is nickel plated (silver color) and it has a PWM 4-pin green LED fan. thats the difference.

I have a couple of receptionists that might be ok to post pics of...
how high clock speed and temp have you gotten that qx6700? I like my zalman a ton but I'm kind of worried about the temps I'll get when overclocking a quad with it.

I can do 3.6 Ghz with 1.55v but the temperatures are quite toasty. core temps are 60 idle and 90 prime large FFT load. i did not even try small FFT, its way too scary.
For 24/7 use Im doing 3.2 ghz with 1.35v, cores are 45c idle, 75c full load (small FFT). 3.46 ghz can be done too with 1.45v and its rock solid, but again temps are on the toasty side because my case gets warm with the 2 GTXs in there.
I'm going to grab a G0 soon, and I am slightly redesigning my air cooling to make it more efficient. Im aiming for 4 Ghz prime stable with G0 and my trusty 9700NT, but just as usual when I get a new chip, I am being optimistic.
I will post back in this thread with pics and results when I get up and running.

Is it possible or likely that the new upcoming E4500 and E4600 CPUs might be built on the G0 stepping too? Or that new M0 stepping? Anything that's better than the current stepping, IOW.
