Well, I finally shelled-out the bucks to get the G-Tech/Pro Competition performance meter and just got mine a few days ago! Oh yah . . . this is a new product . . . not the $139 G-Tech/Pro that has been out for a few years. This is the new version that has the capability to log and cost $250 to $300.

Here is a picture.

I wanted the Deluxe version, but the product is so new that the Deluxe version is unavailable yet. The sales person told me that they are having a promotion right now and if I buy the regular version, they will upgrade me to the Deluxe version for free! It's a $50 deal.

So I bought it and when it came, it included all the PC interface that the Deluxe version came with. It also came with a letter saying that the Deluxe software is not available yet, but when it becomes available, I will be able download it. The product is new and still under development. I got an "Pre-Release Manual". But I am promised free upgrades as they finalize the product. The meter is really cool! I love the logging capability.

I thought that was a cool deal. I got it at Summit Racing --> www.SummitRacing.com
But I couldn't find it on the web-site. I ordered mine through the phone.

Also, I am looking for other owners of this device to share information with. I like to hear from other owners on what you think of the meter. I also started a discussion group about the meter. So if you are an owner or just want some more info, stop by: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/gtechpro/

I have heard mixed results with the thing.

I personally would spend the money for it to dyno tune a Air-Fuel controller.

Well they arent the most accurate items, but they are good for referencing before/after results. I mean i would never trust them for HP/TQ ratings, but i would trust them to tell me if i've got more HP/TQ than before......aren't these just basically an accellerometer?

I sent mine back the day I got it. What a cheap POS for $100+..... Spend your money elsewhere.

The Gtech is pretty accurate depending on the road you are on. It has to be perfect. 100% level, flat and such. It is difficult to tell wether a road is suitable or not.

The Gtech is probably best for measuring performance gains of mode. IE you take your car down a road, measure your perf. Then mod your car and measure again.

I have one of these, and I do actually run my car at the track, and on a dyno. The times are pretty consistent actually, albeit slightly higher. The reason the quarter mile times are higher is the lack of a sticky track, and when running at the track you are measured from a slight roll. When I use the Gtech it was definitely handy in telling if the new mod or tweak I had done to my car had made me faster or slower.

I recommend it if you're into performance. Well worth the money.

Can you tell me exactly what was said?

I called Summit Racing's 1-800 number and asked him if there was a free upgrade and he had no idea what I was talking about. He said that there was a $100 difference between the /Pro and the deluxe. I'd really like to get my hands on one of these... please explain! :)

Thanks!

I think your sales person is probably confusing you between the "G-Tech/Pro" and the "G-Tech/Pro Competition". It's unfortunate that Tesla decided to use such similar names. The Summit Racing part number for "G-Tech Pro" is GTP-GTECH for $139.95. And the part number for the "G-Tech/Pro Competition" is GTP-GTCOMP for $249.95.

The deluxe version is not advertised by Summit Racing. I assume it is because they don't have any. However, I found out about the deluxe version from another racing catalog for $300. It is described as in the other catalog as having a PC interface and software.

When I called Summit Racing, I didn't have the catalog with me, so I asked how much was the "G-Tech Pro Competition". The sales person replied $249.95, so I knew he was talking about the one I want, not the original model. Then I asked if they have the deluxe version with the PC interface, because that is what I want. The sales person told me the deluxe version is unavailable, but on his computer, it said the regular version entitles me to a free upgrade to the deluxe version. He said he had stock in Neveda and can ship it out in a day. I asked how does the free upgrade work, but he doesn't know. He said it could be a card you mail in, or a letter that comes with the product describing the procedure, or some other way.

I thought . . . great . . . I get what I want for $50 less, but I got to sit around for a while without the capability to download the data. And I have to take this sales man's word for it. I didn't think he was lying anyway, so I ordered it.

When it arrived I was pleasantly surprised. All of the PC interface--serial cable, connector, etc.--were in the box, except for the software for data analysis. After I read the manual, I realized that I didn't need the software. All I had to do is connect the device to my PC and capture the text output. I will just have to figure out the math myself to do the analysis.

Anyway, the package did come with a letter directly from Tesla. They said I am entitled to free upgrades and when the software becomes available, they will contact me. They said they have given me this free upgrade in order for me to use it and provide feed-back to them so that can incorporate some of those feed-back in the finalized product. They mentioned that the firmware can be upgraded through their software. I have version 1.0.0.

I thought that was wonderful. Of course, it is still missing a few features that the catalog mentioned. Hopefully, they will be available when the new firmware comes out.

Just found out that if you type in the Summit Racing Part number GTP-GTCOMP on their web-site, it will show up on the net.
