Hi, I'm buying a i7-5820k and would like to overclock it. I'm either going to get the 4 x 8GB G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 2400 or 2666. There's a $100 price difference between the two on Newegg. Will the 2666 help my overclocking more over the 2400? Is it worth the $100. Thanks.

I have the 2666MHz version and I tell you it's generally not worth it to buy faster RAM. Do it only if the price difference is minimal. Where I live 2133MHz is actually the best deal.
ps. do you really need 32GB?

Thanks for all the info. Yes I need the RAM. I work on multiple VMs at a time for my work.

In which case you shouldn't push the 5820K too much, anyway the 100$ price differential isn't justified for which is essentially (barely) a 10% faster RAM. Get the 2400MHz sticks & be done with it, you can upgrade to higher speeds when the price of DDR4 comes down & your mobo has better support for it btw if/when you do upgrade get something in the region of 3500MHz that'll actually make the upgrade worthwhile.

HW-E memory tops-out at 2666mhz with a 100mhz Bclk.
To go higher will require you to adjust Bclk.

This is important (even if you don't want to exceed 2666mhz for RAM) because your memory will somewhat depend on what/how your OC is achieved. For most HW-E users, unless you are exceeding 3000mhz+ on RAM, you are generally best-off with a 2666mhz speed and max (or best) memory timings. This means OCing your CPU with just a multi adjustment and keeping the fsb/mem ratio at 1:1.

This must not be true for all motherboards on HW-E. I'm running PC2800 with 100 BCLK.
