Shacknews passed along this scoop pertaining to DOOM]|[ and Parhelia. You want to make sure and read the whole Carmack plan file as it might save your $400...

Guess Matrox did not take into consideration the games of next year when they were building Parhelia for the "games of tomorrow". Us little hardware guys telling you something sucks is one thing, but when the Carmack brings the smackdown, you don't get back up from it.

Matrox told us at the outset that they weren't looking to capture huge chunks of market share with Parhelia, and obviously, they weren't kidding.

At this point I am really wondering what Matrox was thinking. I know full well that they have explained that their Parhelia will be the card for tomorrow, but while it is currently not keeping pace with the current generation's GPUs, across the board, you have to wonder. Triple head gaming is not going to save Matrox this time round if what we saw is correct. I can certainly understand their reasons with not wanting to give the [ H ] a card at this point.

My Old Matrox Millenium II has better 2D than my Geforce3.

I still own my Millenium II, but not the GF3... 2D is king!

oh well Kyle and you HardOCP boys, go cry a river... you didn't get a free Parhelia to test out. That's no reason to thrash it and the company itself. It just goes to show the quality of that site. Anyways, I am almost everyone informed on this board knew full well that Matrox was not gonna deliver a groundbreaking 3D gaming card. Who cares anyways? the gf4 ti4600 is an AMAZING card that delivers blistering performance and damn good image quality in 3D apps. The new ATI card is comin in august anyways.

Yeah there are quite a few annoying little kids who shouldnt be posting there. But the only way to stop them is to stop registration and get rid of them. They have stopped registration before and its was ok but then people who wanted to get in and post something useful couldn't do so.

At this point, I have to agree. Take a look at the newsgroups, other forums, and even the tech. media..............90% or so are simply trashing it, they are just not as blunt! Sure, I'm positive he doesn't like the fact that he was excluded, but, he just took what he found in other reviews and to be honest, I have yet to find one which shows it in anything but a disappointing way. Perhapos Matrox knew this all along, but, there was a LOT of hype of how the Parhelia would beat the 8500 & the Ti4600 across the board and it just isn't happening and to be honest, drivers aren't going to make it happen. The reviews range from bad to worse covering the Parhelia................it's an OK card for a few "niche" type things like triple monitor, and it is the first "nex gen" card, but, it simply hasn't lived up to the hype and people are disappointed about that. Seems to happen more & more..............a new product is overhyped, and then let's a lot of people down when it arrives..........they'd be better off not saying anything until there is proof................

Here are some examples...

He has a childish spat going with Toms Hardware. If you post a link to www.tomshardware.com on the forums, and click it, it comes up as www.xxxxxx.com or something when you click it. A VERY long time VERY good poster was banned around the time I was researching for a new PC for linking directly to the IP.

He also (before this week) had refused to use any RDRAM motherboards/chipsets in any reviews because of his opinion of the company. Then he expects people to believe his 1st RDRAM review in who knows how long is going to be objective.

Yeah when Matrox decided not to send him a card for their own reasons, Kyle went off an a rant like a six year old in a supermarket when you tell them they cannot put any candy in the shopping cart.
