This is just info for anyone else that might have the same
problem in the future.
I was having an issue with the sound level being too loud on
captures with my newly installed AIW 8500DV. In the course
of trying to figure out what was going wrong, I figured out
that changing the audio source over to the AUX line (or
CD-in, if that is free) on my sound card seems to give me
a normalized audio input.
