FYI...RoadRunner blocking incoming mail...

I just wanted to let people here know that RoadRunner has come up with this bright plan of blocking emails to any rr.com adress if it comes from a mail server with a dynamic IP...this is a stupid thing for them to do since allot of people on the net run email servers off of dynamic IP's(Like Me...I have Business Roadrunner with a dynamic IP). They are assuming that mail that comes from dynamic IP's is either spam from an open relay or virus related....a quote from thier webpage is below. I urge anyone here that has a mail server on a dynamic IP to complain to them because you are getting your mail blocked! This is Bullshit!!!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As part of this continuing effort, Road Runner, along with a significant number of other providers, has implemented incoming port 25 blocks of dynamically assigned IP address space, including dialup, DSL, and Cable modem IP addresses. The reason for this is because of the widespread number of high speed subscribers who we have found are infected with trojans such as Jeem, or have open proxy or SMTP applications which allow third parties to hijack them.

RoadRunner Security Page about Dynamic IP's😕

It's understandable but I think you have more of a right to complain because you have a business account. Aren't you allowed to run servers according to your agreement? Maybe you should get static 😛

I'll bet the large majority of email from people who don't have accurate reverse dns information is spam/virus mail, so its not uncommon for mail servers to be set to reject mail if the reverse lookup info isn't correct. RR is by far not the only ones doing it. If you want to be sure all your mail gets through you need to set your mta to relay its mail through a mail server that can be verified with a reverse lookup (such as roadrunners).

Static means more $$$...unfortunately there is no benefit for me to go static except for this mail blockage issue...so more $$$ for nothing🙁

Soybomb...I dont think they are doing a reverse lookup....I think they know the range of the IP's that are dynamic and are blocking those?

I guess they could be, there are some voluntary participation databases of isps and their dynamic pools, but I wouldn't think that would be worth it. Never tried it though so maybe it is. I just figured they were really checking the reverse since it was more straightforward. I don't like either though 😀

AOL does the same thing. I also run a mail server at home on a dynamic IP, but I just use my ISP smtp server. Incoming mail still goes to my personal smtp server, but I can send mail anywhere using my alias and domain name by sending it through their smtp.

RR is a service of Time Warner, owned by AOL.

haha, I'm well aware of that...But AOL has been blocking residential blocks for a while now. Road Runner has not. In fact, as recently as two weeks ago, I was able to send mail from a dynamic IP to a RR account of mine. I just now did it again, and its blocked.
