FYI - PSN down Tuesday (10/14) between 2PM and 7PM EST

After we were tipped about "essential maintenance work" being conducted in Europe on the PSN, we contacted Sony to find out if North America would be shutting down for a time as well. Turns out, it is. The PSN is scheduled to be unavailable tomorrow, Oct. 14, during the following time:

* 11AM - 4PM Pacific
* 2PM - 7PM Eastern

Be sure to plan accordingly and get those petitions ready demanding a refund for the downtime.

As one of their core demographics (25-35 years old with a full time job), the middle of the day is perfect for me. Also, most Jr. High and Highschool kids are in school until 3pm or later too. [sarcasm] These times pretty much only affect the lazy college kids smoking pot in the middle of the day while playing video games. [/sarcasm]

I think it's safer to assume that there are more people unavailable to play in this country during the 12:01am-6am period than during the afternoon period. Plus, what happens if they have problems and the maintenance window is expanded? Kinda hard to avoid the evening period when I'm assuming the most traffic is on.

They're saying that the new firmware will be out tomorrow, but I wouldn't be a bit surprised if it was available tonight at some point.

The Resistance 2 beta better be released after this maintenance tonight, or at least start tomorrow. :|

Although this is an interestingly timed maintenance, considering the West Coasters are buying SOCOM: Confrontation today and won't be able to log online till later today. I want to buy the bundle, mainly because it's only $10 more than the standalone Sony BT headset, but no... not a single place here has it in stock until tomorrow.
Tuesday street dates are awesome, but they seem rare compared to the Tuesday ship dates, with the following Wednesday being the day the games are released. Don't understand it, why not make everything available on the Tuesday? argh
