Extended Warranty and Purchase Protection - Limited Release
Notice Date: July 31, 2002
Effective Date: August 21, 2002
Beginning August 21, PayPal will offer a limited test rollout of the new Extended Warranty and Purchase Protection program. Buyers will be able to purchase Extended Warranty and Purchase Protection coverage on transactions of less than $1000 involving randomly selected qualified sellers selling tangible goods. The fee for coverage will be displayed on the Payment Details page when the coverage is available for purchase. To avoid competing with our sellers, this coverage does not include separate shipping insurance. Starting August 21, qualified sellers may go to their Profile to opt out of having Extended Warranty and Purchase Protection offered on their transactions.
If a buyer purchases this protection, they will be covered in the following 4 cases: non-receipt of purchase (within 30 days of payment), defective or incorrect merchandise (within 30 days of payment), theft of the purchase (within 30 days of payment), or malfunctioning of the item during the extended warranty period (a 50% extension on the term of an existing warranty). If the buyer's claim is in good order, the buyer will be reimbursed for the total amount of the transaction less coverage fees, or, in the case of an extended warranty, the cost of repairing the good up to the original purchase price. This coverage applies only to physical goods weighing 70 pounds or less. Additional information and terms and conditions will be made available on August 21.
