so the other day i noticed a maybe 4" long horizontal scratch in my instrument panel cover. you know the clear plastic above the gauges.

given i would never touch that plastic i assumed this was either happened when they cleaned the car when i bought it, or for service or most likely a carwash place when they were cleaning the car.

anyway parts of this scratch you could feel with your fingernail but it wasnt like say a razor blade made it, but it felt like say someones metal watch hit the plastic

my initial thought was maybe i can i buy a new clear piece of plastic (i did this for a nissan i owned once that had weird oil stains all over the inside of the cluster). the answer to that was no, its part of the instrument cluster and costs $700!

so i tried meguir's plastx which is scratchx more or less for clear plastic such as headlights and radios and instrument clusters and motorcycle windshields. saw some people post online they'd been successful on other cars. anyway i'd like to add that it worked great. i bought a couple terry cloth towels, a $9 bottle of plastx and 5 min of rubbing on the instrument cluster (actually saw a few more lighter scratches and some swirls like stuff) and boom scratches gone!!! only real difficulty was rubbing the plastic with my cellphone lighting up the area through the top part of the steering wheel.

took a towel with water on it and cleaned off all the residue and it looks perfect.

so yeah just an FYI if anyone else has this issue, it does work quite well.

Thanks! I have some very light swirls in mine from the dealership cleaning the dash. Noticeable in certain sun-light conditions. I've been afraid to try anything on it because plastic is sensitive...

Good to know this worked - maybe I'll give it a shot.

This is why I never, ever let anyone else wash my car. THose damn rags they use. . . I use compressed air to clean the plastic cover since it never gets touched.

definitely i've learned my lesson.

why do they even bother wiping there honestly. i generally only go to a car wash that is manned if i've been on a road trip and have all sorts of flies and such on my car. i guess i'd probably do it myself if i didnt live in an apartment complex
