here is the story... I picked up a free rack from a garage sale today (gear basket, SST towers and 48" bars + y30 clips) the lady gave it to me for free since they're not using it. so great, i asked if they had the key but they didn't. brought the rack home, cleaned it off a little and then i was going to put it off to figure out what's going on (whether i might need Q towers because it's hard to find the clips for my car)... but i did it tonight.

it was REALLY easy to pick. well, the core was unlocked but I wanted to get them out so i can go buy new ones. basically I just pushed the lip thing into the core (the back of the handle thing where you put your core in) and just stuck a screwdriver in, and it came out half way already. okay, so i grabbed one of those lock picking thingy from the garage and viola, it came right off!

It might be harder once it's locked and in place, but then i'm a noob...

Thank you. I am now well-aware of the dangers of accepting free, old, rusted roof racks w/no keys from people I don't know while standing in their driveway.

it's not that rusty and it's actually in excellent shape.

if you don't have any constructive comments why don't you just stay out of the discussion?

It's not in "excellent shape" if it came w/no keys and you had to use Implements of Destruction to open the locks and such. In fact, I'd say it's pretty FuX0r3d. :D

If it's rusty then it is far from being in excellent shape. If I almost wipe my butt after taking a dump it doesn't count as actually wiping it. It is either perfec, excellent or a piece of shyt.

As to your comment about others staying out of your so called discussion, this is OT and anything goes. If you can't take the heat then get out of the refrigerator.

It really pisses me off when people want ice cubes but don't want to get their hands wet. You have to put your hand in your chonies once in awhile even if to take a piss, if not to jack yourself off.

it has paint chipped and some rust, normal wear and tear. perfect, excellent or a piece of shyt my a$$.

oh i don't give a rats a$$ of what any of you have to say about my acquisition of a free rack. I'm merely telling you guys that it was easy for me to pick 4 undamaged SKS core locks.

I wouldn't leave any bike worth any money on top of my car out of my sight in most places regrdless of the quality of the rack. Really, the purpose of those racks is to secure stuff to the top of your car so it doesn't fly off on the freeway, not o prevent agaisnt theft.

I wouldn't leave my snowbaord unattended on the roof of a car either.

Same here.

Personally, if someone wants to take my skis or my bike from the top of my car while I'm in the grocery store or something, I'll let them have it. I'd much rather them be able to remove it easily than risk getting my car damaged in the process.

Uh, the lock cores are made to be inserted and removed easily when unlocked. Try to remove them again after they're locked, and then report back.
