Just noticed that newegg has dropped the warranty from 30 to 15 days (cpu's still 7) on their refurbs. I had gotten so used to the 30 days that I had stopped paying attention to the notice.

Newegg.com guarantees all refurbished product for 15 days only.
All refurbished parts are considered OEM BAREBONE!.

Mods please toss if not appropriate

This must be recent because I just bought a refurb mobo last week and the invoice says 30 days . . . good catch though . . . this will affect a lot of AT users . . .

I was always weary of their refurb'd parts since I've heard so many horror stories.. I decided to venture out last week and got a refurbed motherboard... The thing was still sealed in the box... Either they messed up or else these refurbed motherboards were sealed back up (motherboard was sealed with the manufactuer's sticker of the end, cables, manual, cd, etc were still sealed... all for $30, I was impressed :)

Any Manufacturer's warranties after NewEgg's expires?
I'd like to know the answer to this too... :)

I too have been frequently visiting there refurbished section (motherboards) but have no experience buying refurbs.

Any feedback from new egg refurbished boards?

You can use amex which should extend the warranty to 30 days or is it 1 year?

I had a great experience with newegg refurbs two weeks ago

got an Asus P4S333 motherboard for only $40. Works like a charm in a PC I built for a friend. I paid $110 for the same board back in March, so not having the manual or driver CD didnt bother me.

However, with this new policy, I may be more careful with ordered refurbs. Does the 15 days start the day the order is placed? In that case, if you factor in shipping to you and back for RMA, then you really only have a few days to test.

Bump. Thanks for the info. That new 15 day policy will surely affect the number of days you can test your refurb mobo. I've been lucky so far, bought refurb Abit KR7A-Raid, Gigabyte GA-7DXR, and Tyan S2460 and they all work great. Got all the manuals & cables too. Just make sure that you have all the parts so you can test the mobo as soon as it arrives.

I had a refurb that I exchanged after 30 days. Has anyone found NewEgg strict with their return/exchange policy?

The last time that I talked to Newegg, the 15 days started from the ORDER DATE which means less than 7 days for some people. I used to like the refurbed section but I've been shafted too many times on crappy refurbs (i.e. not refurbed at all).
I'll be staying away from this stuff.

As far as the warranty extension by using your credit card goes... NO WARRANTY EXTENSION BY CCs. My VISA extends the "manufacturer's warranty" and NewEgg is giving the warranty NOT the manufacturer. I've found this out the hard way as when claiming something that past the warranty period they asked me for a copy of the manufacturer's proof of warranty.

This makes it VERY HARD to test the components. I don't know how lenient NewEgg will be with the returns but I'm steering clear.

You have enough leeway to test fry your stuff for 2-3 days. . . if all works then everything should go well.

I too have been screwed by their refurbs. Or i should say so called refurbs.. 2 times was enough to teach me a lesson.. both times items were bad or had bad parts.

I recently order a few GF4 refurbs 3 out of 4 were defective and obviously not even tested. 2 had loose capacitors floating in the bag! Hopefully they will get better at quality control or I will not be ordering any more!

Newegg doesn't seem to test their refurb parts. I ordered a graphic card that was the only item I purchased from refurb section.

It turned out that it had a real problem, so I had to return it with my cost.

Conclusion: I will never buy any refurbs from Newegg again.

I've just received my second refurb from Newegg. A Biostar KT133A board and now a Shuttle KT266A board. Both came looking like they were new in box with all the goodies. Both with free shipping. Both work great. I'm expecting my third board tomorrow.

I saw the 15 day warrantee. It's short, but I just need to do my testing right away and not put it off.

Kudos for you got the better part of the deal, I bought a refurb Asus a7v333. It was an obvious return, box was was a bit beat up and of course OEM, just the board. No POST dead. The customer service was dead cold too in her responses.

However they were fast in responding affirmatively to the RMA request, I made sure I applied within 7 days to account for approval and shipping time.

Still waiting for the refund tho'

I'm RMAing my dead K7T Pro2-A, it was a replacement for a board I bought in Jan 2000. So the warranty is up through MWAVE where I bought it, but they suggested I call MSI. An MSI CSR told me it was under warranty for 3 years. Here's an excerpt from the MSI RMA form email.

I think this should apply to MSI motherboards as long as they have an appropriate serial number...don't know about other manufacturer's policies.

IS MY MOTHERBOARD STILL UNDER WARRANTY???

MSI M/B manufactured on or after year 2000 are backed with 3 years warranty. M/B manufactured before 2000 are out of warranty and cannot be sent in for repair or replacement.

HOW DO I TELL THE M/B?S MANUFACTURED DATE???

First 2 digits of the serial number is the manufactured year and the next 2 digits is the manufactured month.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm pretty discouraged with their refurbs but sometimes they're so tempting.

I actually used amex blue not to long ago 7-8 months ago in purchasing a oem cpu 1ghz tbird around $160 I beleive. I somehow fried it (how can that happen to Tbirds :) )it was a stupid heatsink placement error.

It had a 30 day warranty then but it was 2 months after date of purchase, called amex told them my cpu died warranty was only 30 days faxed them a copy of the reciept which i believe shows 30 day warranty somewhere 1week later I get paid by amex. It may have helped that I have never called them to for any warranty claims in the past. Maybe they are stricter these days.
