I was speaking of efficency wich cant be optimal if healthcare
is not nationalized in respect of payements.

Most advanced european countries have lower expenses/GDP
yet no one will dispute the fact that coverage is way better
than in the US , and dont tell me that the quality of the service
is not as good as yours , it is actually way better unless you are
part of the top 1% wich can get more , but for way more money.....

Just imagine that the despised actor in France that did flee for tax
reasons had to sustain more than five heart surgery and he used
public hospitals because here they are so much better than the private ones....

Dont forget the tax for not having healthcare.

How do you get this tax?

If you can't afford it, you get it for free. If it is hard to afford, you get it cheap.

The only people that get "taxed" are the people were choosing not to get it, but could afford it anyway.

Look at the poverty rates among the elderly pre-SS.

Pre-SS in terms of 'before current elderly get SS factored into their income levels' or pre-SS in terms of 'before SS was around'?

Regardless I should amend my statement: With the information out there about how and what to save for retirement and the tax free\tax deferred options available I do not think the government have to provid as much of a benefit as they do. However - I do not want to do away with it completely esp given the relative easy of fixing it
