I've just received a reply from ATI regarding the realtime MPEG-2 video capture using AMD TBird. Here it is:

-------------------
Dear Sir

Thanks for the mail and apologies for the delay in replying.

The point about MPEG Capure is the faster the CPU the better the quality as
it relies heavily on the processor. A Pentium 3 as it states on our site is
only a guideline. Obviously if you have something faster like a
thunderboard or Athlon etc.. Mpeg 2 capture should be of better quality.
Please ensure that you have all of the latest motherboard and chipset
patches and you should have no problems.

Yes you can capture from tv tuner in mpeg in real time.

Kind Regards

I posted a thread questioning the ability to capture MPEG-2 video with AIW Radeon using the TBird 800 CPU three weeks ago. I also e-mailed ATI about this issue. Above is the reply.
Now it doesn't matter for me, because I've changed my decision - I will upgrade to a PIII/CUSL2, not a TBird. It could look like I am crazy, but I exactly know what I am doing .
