http://slickdeals.net/f/6317812-2gb...ntract-required-for-new-and-current-customers

Thought I would pass on the information. Check out the thread above for some insight. I just tried to do it but since I have an iPad mini on my data plan I could not do it. I am about to add my GF to the account but we are going this route instead and saving ~$15 / month

This plan is ideal for those on verizon who have just one phone on their plan. It might even be worth it for some to split up their family plan to 2 singular plans.

It does require adding another year to your contract, but shouldnt be a big deal for those who have a contract longer than ~10 months or those who are about to switch.

Sounds like a good deal. I suppose it's BYOD thing? With Verizon's coverage, $60/Mo. is probably worthwhile.

Though usually when I receive my phone bill there are taxes and whatever regulatory fees added, making me pissed off. Post-paid plans, ugh.

People on slickdeals are saying you can sign up for a higher priced share everything plan (starts at $80 / month) to get your subsidized phone, then call verizon and get changed into this plan. I cannot attest for this myself, but I will be doing this exact thing for my gf in the next couple days. I will report back how it went.

Still expensive IMO. Unless VZW is all you can get in your area.

Sorry this is NOT a good deal. I am a Verizon customer, and I would advise people to stay away from this "deal".

Please explain how this is a not a good deal for people who need unlimited minutes and texts.

Or just hate like you always do without anything to back up what you say.

Currently I pay $110 / month including a 13% corporate discount for this same plan + an ipad mini added on the data plan.

If I cut off the ipad mini and changed to this plan, I would save over $40.

I can get any other provider I want in my area. However VZW is the only company that has service out at our cabin. While VZW may be one of the most expensive providers out there, I gotta say their coverage is top notch compared to my past two (AT&T and T-mobile).

Is VZW the only one that adds about $15's worth of additional fees or do other carriers do as well? A $60 plan can easily turn into $75-80 a month after those other charges.

BYOP makes this a direct competitor to Straight Talk on ATT's network. ST is $45 and has an even greater allowance(2.5GB full speed then unlimited but throttled, Verizon charges you extra every time you go over the data limit) and unlimited mins/text, and no contract.

Apples to oranges. This promotion allows you to buy a phone fully subsidized with verizon and requires a 2 year contract. Straight talk may be good for some people, but its not great for all and may not include coverage for people who travel.

I understand verizon may not be the cheapest. I also understand AT&T dropped calls a lot and had unreliable data connections every single time I visited large metro areas like NYC and SF. AT&T also has no service in the national forest area in northern Arizona.

I don't think people who are on straight talk would be switching to a 2 year VZW contract anytime soon. This deal is great for those who have switched to verizon in the past couple years or are considering making the switch and dont mind a contact. It is especially great for those who are already stuck in a VZW contract.

wait, are you saying you can get subsidized phone with this $60/mon plan?

1 year contract with $60/month, and you get a iPhone 5S for $200 plus tax?

Its a 2 year contract if you are new to verizon. You go and buy the iPhone 5S for $200 plus tax under the normal unlimited share everything plan ($85+). You call verizon after you buy the iPhone 5S and switch to this plan. It wont extend your contract or anything.

If you are already with verizon, switching to this plan will extend your contract another year ONLY IF your contract has less than a year left on it. It will not extend the contract if its already 1 year plus.

in that case, it's a pretty good deal. I thought it was BYOD.

I guess it's really $65.60 after taxes, so it's roughly $20/month more than StraightTalk (or $480 more over 2 years).

Definitely better data speed and reliability on Verizon, but there are some downsides to Verizon:

1. locked up in contract
2. delayed or limited phone selection.

im pretty sure everyone adds those fees

Any post-paid plan will have a similar percentage of fees added. Pre-paid plans on the other hand have that rolled into the price already. No surprise billing.

Or $70 for unlimited everything plus 2.5 tethering. There is no comparison, Verizon sucks if TMobile is in your area.

It's not just about what's in your area. People go on road trips, in my experience Verizon is the only one to have reliable service in most places you'd drive to and along the way. Definitely won't be the case with T-Mobile, however I am with T-Mobile because their coverage works for me and their family plans are an outstanding deal.

Bumping this w/ an update.

Just called verizon and switched to this plan. Ended up cutting out my iPad Mini data plan. This doesn't change my upgrade date at all and just extends my contract 1 year.

Bill before:
$113 w/ 13% corporate discount & ipad shared data (+$10)

Now:
$60 without any corporate discount and no ipad connectivity.

Saved me ~$500 / year. Now I will just add a month of iPad data when I need it.

I'm with the 'I'm missing something' crowd. Is Verizon's service really that unrivaled?

I just switched prepaids to ATT for the exact same plan. It was like my highest-priced option (for unlimited talk/text and 'might-as-well-be-unlimited' (for my purposes) data). Virgin was 45 for bad coverage, bad customer service, and terrible data speeds. Straighttalk is basically ATT/Gophone for 15 less, but I'm guessing the VM-level price means VM-level cust service. Could not deal with VM's flaky billing and horrible, completely-unhelpful reps anymore.

ATT has a super strong network in my area. Possibly the best. They get service in the 'trouble spots' where Verizon might not and Sprint and T-mobile just laugh at you. Basically, I was willing to drop an extra 10-20 bucks a month for reliable service and actually people I could call if there were issues. Already had to call to get my number ported...almost lost my sanity...but still have to respect that, clusterfuck that it was, I still had to call their efforts in taking care of their customer WAY better than other cell company I've dealt with. FFS, they actually called me back twice after I got disconnected. Hell, Virgin wouldn't even pick up...

Anyway, yeah, this Verizon plan just seems like a standard major carrier prepaid plan. Which is a little more expensive than a MNVO plan. And both are far better deals that contract plans, unless they give you one HELL of a free phone. Even then, I've done the math on some of the offers I've seen, and found that even a 100% free iPhone does not offset the cost of two years of service at all.

If a $60 prepaid plan is 100 on contract, that's about an extra grand over two years. The only advantage is the free phone you can get up front. Although most people still pay something.

Basically, wireless carriers and contract plans have become like 'fast cash' stores, or shady used car dealers. Get people in with up-front money and/or things, then rape them. HaHa! That'll teach you to be poor!

And the bourgeoise sticks around because 'what do I care, I'm not poor...'

Tech (and tech services) companies have really become ridiculously disgusting.
