FX6300 which Motherboard?

MicroCenter has some nice looking bundles with the FX6300;

GA-78LMT-USB3 Socket AM3+ mATX $99.99

MSI 970A-G46 AM3+ ATX $139.98

ASUS M5A97 R2.0 Socket AM3+ ATX $149.98

ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0 Socket AM3+ ATX $139.98

ASRock 970 Extreme4 AM3+ ATX $159.98

Currently thinking one of these bundles with a Radeon 270 or 270x.

Time frame next week or two, with some patience if a sale is likely soon.

I run two 6300 OCed machines on cheapo motherboards and everything runs fine. Take the one that has features you need (usb3.0, sata 6, etc)

I just built a FX-6350 on that very same ASUS board and it was flawless. Nice and stable.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the FX series does not have an IGP built in, so does the gigabyte board provide that thru the chipset, or do you need a compatible CPU to enable the onboard GPU?

The 760G and 780G have chipset IGPs. AM3 / AM3+ CPUs do not have IGPs. Not all AM3 / AM3+ system chipsets include IGPs, mostly just the cheaper, lower-end ones. 990X, 990FX don't.

Since I plan to use a video card such as a Radeon 270 or better, lack of IGP on the motherboard seems like one less driver and power issue that isn't needed.

IGP on my MSI 790 MB was a PITA with some kind of conflict with the aging x1300 video card I needed to support a legacy Svideo TV. Seems like IGP "liked" one version of catalyst drivers and X1300 another.

I see the M5A99 (990FX) for $135 @Newegg. Why is a 970X board (M5A97) so expensive?

So occasional sale prices look good?

Generally vendors want to sell items, so prices vary until some desired volume is reached. Could be something special and nice, could be some weird legacy reason.

OP, keep in mind, I said nothing about OCing the FX8320 (let alone the FX8350) on the 78LMT 😉

The 78LMT-USB3 would be able to do some overclocking with a FX8320.
It runs a FX8350 stock without any throttling.

The board has beefy VRMs heatsinks.
