ROFL "ROFL *witty remark*"!

I'm so above all of you. :p

Back on topic though... I still don't understand how these things keep getting sold. Is AMD funding the FX line off the 100 people who are actually willing to throw out $1k+ on a CPU?

No. Just because it's $1339 right now doesnt mean it will be $1339 forever. It'll lower down in price, and AMD wouldnt make something that people wouldnt buy. And guess what? It's been proven that people WILL buy them. How so? Well, this will be the 5th FX out there. Don't forget that Intel's got an even worse future for them. the far majority of individual PC builders use AMD in their systems now. We all know that the Extreme Edition is generally lagging behind the FX. Now the question is: Who will be buying the Extreme Edition CPUs?

rich idiots who have never read single review in heir life and have money to waste.

yeah the fx-60 is dual core. but i still don't get one thing.
this fx 60 costing 1339 is clocked at 2.6 ghz.

wih good air cooling an opteron 165 can be overclocked to 2.6 ghz. if suppose someone were to do that will the opterons performance equal the fx-60's

Technically an Opteron at 2.6 would be faster since the HTT is at a faster speed (260x10 or 290x9? opposed to 200x13?) and a faster HTT opposed to a higher multiplyer always wins (and thats what memory dividers are for)

Yeah, extreme edition is a rip off. BUT what a lot of people don't understand is that sure you can OVERCLOCK a chip to the stock speed of another chip. But can you overclock an opteron to the overclocked speed of the FX-60?

An opteron 144 costing 145-150 can reach 3.0 GHz on just air(not stock HSF) - it might be able to go higher with water-cooling if you are lucky and get a good stepping. Again, opteron 144 is not dual core; only disadvantage but it makes up for it with the much lower price. So the multiplier on FX60 is unlocked? Wish the multiplier can be unlocked on my opteron 144. it would be great to increase multiplier instead of FSB because my RAM and psu kinda suck so I can't increase the FSB too much..

Looks like amd didn't make too many dual-cored FX60s. didn't they make like 1000 total or something? I wonder if they will sell all 1000 of the cpus anytime soon...

btw, did you ever play css? I remember a DrZoidberg from css. I think the server was fraggin or something =p

K...let's look @ it from a possible purchasers perspective who:
Has 1 decent Mobo with just above average OCing ability plus just above average RAM and plans on upgrading soon to the M2 but wants DC now

Get's the Retail FX60 (bragging rights) and doesn't have to spill out any extra $'s for DDR RAM cause persons going to need DDRII for the next M2 nor does he/she have to buy a new MoBo yet that has great OCing ability...so buyer saves $'s there and only loses the value of the older 939 Squre that's been used

Not only is the person a proud owner of 1 FX60 on the Block, possiby the City and keeps it's 3 yr warranty by not OCing it and going out to blow more money on 1 elite air cooling HS/Fan, mess with the timings and try to get the Opteron..
so it gets down to paying the $1200 and ready to go or buying the following with no guarantee of the reachable 2.6GHz not to mention having to squirm over the time to hit that magic number.

New Mobo (say DFI)= $175
New HS/Fan=$40
New RAM=$200
Opteron=$325
Time spent building the new Rig and loss of warranty ( or maybe paying someone to build it)...then having the extra parts to go out and sell...well if monies no object I guess give it away :p

Now these are figures off the top of my head but it makes buying the FX60 more justified in the purchasers eyes...not mines but the buyer who is getting one ;)

I would just like to thank that person as the other Squares will go down in price as it always does :D
