Hello....I am thinking about upgrading vid cards and was looking for some advice. I now have a Asus geforce fx5950 ultra (not oc) I was thinking about going with a geforce 6800gt , both are agp and 256mb. Is this going to be a good upgrade ? Am I going to see a big diffrence /improvment ? Performance going to be better ? I need to stay with AGP for now.

Abit IC7- Max3
intel p4 2.8
80g hd
500 watt power
creative Audigy Z2
Geforce 5950 ultra............or...........Geforce 6800gt ??

Thanks for any input
Mike :)

6800GT is a big leap. I would suggest you get a 6800GS and save yourself some money. The XFX 6800GS is very unlockable and OCs pretty well.

6800GT would be a very big upgrade. The FX series simply sucked.

definitely a big upgrade. you should go for it.

i remember playing first few levels of farcry on a 5900 then finished the game on a 6800gt. so many details in the textures that i didn't get to enjoy while on the 5900.

yeah...i went from 9700pro to x800xl...which is an equal leap and boy was i loving it. turning on aa/af on newer games is pretty great.

massive leap, and proper DX9 performance, and proper AA (Nv40 = nvidia moved to rotated grid MSAA?) and AF performance, it'll be like day and night in newer games such as FEAR SS2 etc andyou'll be able to enjoy DX9 effects!

OP - please keep in mind that even if you only like nVidia products the 6800GS is equal in performance to the 6800GT and normally much cheaper. I don't know where you are getting your card, but in most cases the 6800GS is the better choice.

So if I decide to go with the 6800GS, which brand would be a good/best choice ?

Thanks,
Mike :)

I went from a 5950 ultra to a 6800gt at about the time the 6800gt came out and it was a superb upgrade. My more recent upgrade from that to a 7800gtx was just as spectacular.
