On a earlier post in the hotdeals section there was this deal for a xfx geforce fx5900xt...

newegg xfx geforce fx5900xt

I was planning to just go ahead and buy this and maybe I can flash the bios to a 5950ultra. This website pretty much shows the process you need to do inorder to flash the bios.

5900 to 5950 bios flash

Now here are the questions...

1) on the bios flash link it says 5900.... but does this reply to a 5900xt? or does it have to be a specific 5900NON-PRO?

Thanks in advance guys!

Might want to reconsider and just do some overclocking instead. The memory isn't rated to run as high as the 5950, but you could probably overclock it easily to 5900 regular speeds.

jimmy.. it has 256-bit memory.. wtf are you smoking?

I don't think the mod will work. 2.8ns ram @ 950MHz? highly unlikely

You are stupid if you flash that xt. Its not built to handle the heat like a 5900 is. you may as well order another card now if you flash it. And your ram is only 2.8ns 700 mhz. It will fry trust me.

Sorry, no insult intended. Im just tired of guys ruining their cards and sending them back in for a rma when they should eat the cost of their stupidity. I have seen thread after thread of ppl that ruined a se\xt by flashing it. If you are dead set on flashing a card then buy a 5900. Then when the 5900 dies in 6 months there you go. Overclocking will decrease the life of your card depending on your hardward cooling capacity and the level of volt moddage. Flash a card and you can kiss it goodbye. It may run ok for a while but you are living on borrowed time. And like we said, the xt\se flash is out of the question period!

Thats cool, I understand... at this point.. I might just buy a 9800pro and just not oc it... but then again.. kinda defeats the point of me and my koolance liquid cooled kit...=\... Thanks for the heads up though.

Don't flash if it doesn't work you've wasted your board. It's not a good o/c, I have one myself but it still delivers a very good punch for the price.
