FX5900XT to 6800GT - worth it?

Gearing up for EQ2 and thinking of upgrading my 5900XT to a 6800GT.

How much of a difference can I expect?

I have a HTPC that could benifit from the 5900 so it won't go to waste, but is it worth me droping $400?

What can I expect out of the 6800 that the 5900 won't do?

If I recall, EQ2 has STEEP h/w requirements. And the difference is power between those two cards is pretty significant. But, you might as well just wait till it comes out on monday before ordering up a new card. Play it and see how it does.

I'm willing to bet though that it would make a BIG difference in effects, detail, resolutions, and overall playability.
 
Not sure about EQ2, but I went from an FX5900 to a 6800GT and noticed quite a difference in everything I've played. For instance, I played FarCry at 1024x768 med quality on my 5900 and play it at 1600x1200 high quality on the 6800GT.

well I went by my local BB and they ordered me a 6800GT, may get it tomorrow but probably not until Wednesday. Guess 1 day of playing with the 5900 will make me forget the $400 I paid for the 6800 LOL

Wow, if eq2 is going to need a 6800GT to have a good experience I think SOE is going to have trouble getting people to jump on board....
 
It'll definitely be worth it but if you're upgrading just for EQ2 it may pay to wait for the game to come out before making a decision.
 
lol i'll have to play EQ2 on a 9200 till christmas when i get a 6600GT. that will be UbEr eye candy for a month and a half =P

heh and YES, believe it or not, 9200's are supported. =D
 
Heh I still remember when the 5900 was first released. They were showcasing the power of the 5900 with EQ2, saying EQ2 was designed to run best on the 5900. 😉

Well, considering EQ2 goes live on MONDAY, and given SOE's history....Never the less, I'll be picking up my reserved copy on Monday, and will happily play through my included 30 days.
 
Im totally disapointed by the 6800gt performance with EQ2.Performance are worst than with my old 9800 pro ( im not kidding)

For now its just maybe a driver issue, that will be work in a near future.

But for now....6800 card have bad drivers for eq2.For everything else tho, its a different story, the card really worth it.
