Mine makes noises when running 3D applications. It's very noticeable especially when the chassis cover is off. It is not the fan! It's a similar phenomenon that some people have observed with their mainboards when running Prime95. REF

It doesn't seem to affect stability. I'm wondering how many other cards out there are doing the same.

My Radeon 9500 Pro makes high pitched whistles at times, it was a bit unnerving at first, but i got used to it and i really dont think it has an effect on stability.

I'm going to pinpoint the exact component that is making these noises. I'll have access to some "state of the art" apparatus tomorrow. :)

I've never heard anything from this particular system until the 5900 was installed. The previous card was a 9800 pro.

I guess it could always be worse! :Q :Q :Q

Check the capacitors. They are about the only thing capable of whistling (they are what you hear when a large camera flash charges up).

It is possible one of them could be faulty - there were some dodgy electrolytics from Taiwan going around a while back, but no reputable card maker should still be using them.

My video card could burp & fart for all I care if I were changing from 9800 radeons to Geforce FX 5900s and stability wasn't affected.
