FX5600XT, only 5800-3dmark2001 points

something is wrong, i used to get 4500 with my geforce2 pro.

geforce FX5600XT

80gb 8MB W.D

and i just switched over from a geforce3 ti200, i dont see much improvements.
Running windows XP, and i freshly installed drivers. 53.50.

should i reinstall windows.?

It's a 5600XT, what did you expect. That is very near 5200 Ultra.

Unfortunantly I believe you fell for Nvidias naming scheme. In ATIs case XT is good but for Nvidia, XT is bad.

At first I read that as 3dmark2003 and I was thinking, "NO WAY", but it's 2001 so that's probably about right.

The reason your getting such a crap score is because your fx5600 xt has a 64bit memory bus (some don't but most do) which cripples it's performance, most are also clocked slower than a regular fx5600 as well to further reduce it's performance.

He's getting just under 6000 points, the 5200 ultra I tested was getting 9300 points so his fx5600 xt is performing much worse than a 5200 ultra. Actually it's even worse than that, on a similar spec system I was getting 6679 with a basic fx5200!

Most 5600XTs have 64bit memory like the R9600SE and a lot of low-end cards.
Most regular video cards have at least 128 bit since ~1999. Even the TNT2 had 128bit. 64bit memory lowers performance by about 50%.
Reinstalling windows won't help you, try to get a refund or get another card.
Did you willfully buy an 5600XT or you wanted to get a regular 5600?

Avoid all Nvidia 5200/5600 and 5700 derivatives, the "other" company has better products in the lower performance market for cheaper

Radeon 9200 and 9600 series. Even a vanilla 9600 will smack about most of nVidia's midrange product lineup, and at a lower price to boot.

9600xt > 5700 Ultra
9600 Pro > 5700 non-ultra or 5600 Ultra
8500/9100/9200 > 5200 ultra or non-ultra

The only champ in Nvidia's lower-prices lineup is Geforce4 4200
In the mainstream its 5900XT/5900 non-ultra

Otherwise stay away from nvidia for poor performance with AA/AF enabled and sluggishness in directx 9

I wouldn't consider ati's low end that much better than nvidias. The 8500/9100 are still good on that end, however their 9000/9200 are far from spectacular. They're often slower than a 5200 ultra.

My 64bit memory bus Sapphire 9100 64MB scores go up about 12% if you run 3Dmark2001 in 16 bit instead of 32bit.

In actual games you can get a significant boost by using 16bit. Using fraps I?ve benched about 50% faster in MOH and Delta Force using 16 bit, so if you?re stuck with that 5600XT, running games in 16bit will help significantly.

Those 9100?s 128MB cards are a really good gaming bargain here in Canada but supply of them has just about dried up. They?re about the same price a regular 9000 128MB and much faster. When the 9600?s come down in price to the mid $90?s US they will be a pretty decent card. Over $100 they?re a little pricey right now IMO.

The r9200 is slower than a fx5200 although I'd take a r9600 over a fx5600 anyday! 🙂
