Hi folks,

I posted here last week about a Radeon 9200SE that had suddenly developed a blurry second display. I've taken this in for service, and since it will be 3-4 weeks for a diagnosis I decided to buy another budget dual-head card. But now my problems are even worse...

I bought a Geforce FX 5200 (random off-brand "Albatron"). Documentation clearly states that nvidia's "Twinview" will work on this card. I'm using the latest drivers. And so the fun begins...

Both of my monitors are VGA, and this card has one VGA and one DVI output. So I'm using a DVI-VGA adapter for the second monitor. With EITHER monitor hooked to the card, the display is clear, bright, and seemingly fully functionals. The nvidia toolbar correctly identifies the attached monitor, and all is well. But when BOTH monitors are hooked up, the following happens:

- the displays become significantly less bright
- the panel no longer displays the correct monitor type, but instead calls it "Analog Display"
- there are no settings for Twinview at all. It is not possible to extend my desktop to the second monitor - it is always only a duplicate of the first.

I'm starting to think that I need to invest more than 50 bucks on video cards. I'm not a gamer, so I figured the low-end was fine for me. But I'm apparently just not able to get a dual-head configuration to work.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.
