hi,

i usually play most games in 800*600*32 mode or if it is allowed 1024*768*32 mode.
for FX5200, how many frames per second does it rate for DX9 games?
If more than 30 frames per second for 1024*768*32 mode, i think it has merit over radeon9200se...
what is your opinion?

you wont be able to play ANY direct x game with the DX9 features on with decent frame rate anything less than a 5900xt

reallly, a ti4200 is a much better buy even if it doesnt have DX 9 support

if you dont mind buying used, u can get a 9500 pro for $100 which is a very nice card

I doubt a 5200 could get 30 frams at either resolution...
And if you're thinking the 9200se is a dx9 card, it's not.

The 5200 was never meant to be a performance card. It can be HORRIBLY crippled depending on what type you buy. In most instances, it is trounced by high-end cards from 2 generations ago. And that's in DirectX8.1. I shudder to think what FPS the card would pull in anything DX9 based. You're much better off saving up some money and getting atleast a 5700 Ulta/ 9600 pro if you want anykind of a good gameplay experience in DX9.

i can run ut2k4 at 1024x768 with charatcer and world textures at high with everything else on low. i get about 50 fps in deathmatch on ons it depends on the map but never drops below 30 fps. I didnt do any tweaking and overclocking on the card. i also get 40 fps in battlefield 1942 secret weapons running at 1024x768 with maxed settings...

they both suck.
Welcome to AT forums, shuttlear. People on here are generally more friendly and useful than this, but the FX5200 is kind of a dirty word arounf here, since it was really marketed to mislead a lot of people. That being said, I so no reason for you to be insulted because you might have made a poor vid card decision in the past.Your post is the first step in the right direction. If you don't get discouraged by crappy remarks, you will learn a lot from these forums that will help you pick up a good video card at a decent price.

That is some good advice.

i can get that with a 5200 running with 512 mb of ram and a P4 2.53 ghz cpu. thats why i posted it. I knew the card sucked but it was the best pci card i could get. Dell screwed me over big time. And the future rig will very soon be my rig. Im just waiting for the video card showdown to settle.

Interesting, I wouldn't have expected it to do that well. Have you ever run UMark? Pretty neat (and really easy to use) benchamrk app for UT2003/4. I'd be curious to see your scores.

Edit: and a screenshot of that game looks like at those settings if possible.
Serioulsy, I'm not trying to rip on your rig, I'm just kinda curious. There is a lot of talk about how the FX5200 sucks this and that, but no one saying that stuff actually owns one.

Speaking from experience, I could not play Halo at 640x480 with the lowest quality settings. It was a slideshow. FX5200 = garbage.

Most ISP's include a bit of personal web space with an account, I usually just upload mine there with an ftp program. There are also a number of places that let you host pics for free. Once you have it up, just put the link in your post. If it's too much hassle, don't bother. I was just curious as to what type of IQ you were getting out of that FX5200. Don't mean to ask you to jump through a bunch of hoops.

i havent really ran any benchmarks but i will if there free, ill try to post a scrennie soon

UMArk is free.

Edit: I found this site for posting pictures. http://www.photobucket.com/

definitely an improvement from dedicated graphics. Except for the new intel integrated lol. I bought a dell once 3000.00 for a PII 450. Dear God in heaven's name. If the card has served you well good! I would go for at least a 9600pro/xt or 5700ultra for really decent Directx9 games in 1024 x 768 resolution

I have a 2400 kt266 with a 768megs of ram and a 9600pro and i run ut 2004 at 1024 x 768 maxed out except shadows at blob and i have no slow down or stutter at all.

I get what you are saying here, but a bit of n00b advice: The AT Forum mods frown on users describing things as "gay". This is a tech forum and there are all kinds of people on here, be respectful of them.

Scolding aside, did you get a chance to try out UMark yet?
