FX compared to A64

Would going from a 3400 Clawhammer to a FX-53 make a preformance difference? The clock speed difference is only .2 but for some reason I think it would be better.

Then why the hell do people drop a grand on an fx55 when they could grab a 3200 and overclock it to hell? I can't imagine there is no advantage.

Not everyone overclocks, and some people want "the best".

I just can't believe a 4000, 3700, 3400, and a FX53 are all the same speed. I found a really good deal on a FX53 and I think I want to pick one up.

That deal on the fx53 is dead. Plus you would have to buy an entire new motherboard because fx53 is socket 940 and also new ram because it uses ECC ram.

There are Socket 940 and 939 FX-53s.

Is it dead in-store as well?

or they could just be smart and overclock to get the best.

MAny people hat buy the FX-55s are jst ric people with small genetalia that think thy will be cool. Howeever, there are many people that actually need that power and the stability of not OCing. You must also consider that the FX can be OCed much further (over 3.5 with morer exotic cooling). For basic gaming, a 3200+ (even at stock) would be fine.

Either way you would have to buy a new mobo as well. In that case I would just buy a new venice and overclock it.

err i'm not too much into overclocking...what do you mean when you say the fx is not lock..if the a64 is locked then how come people are overclocking it...guess i must be missing something somewhere

Um, the FX-5x has double the cache and uses SOI for faster processing. A 3200 will not overclock as well or as high as a 3500+.

Persoanaly I would go with the new Venice core in the 3500 or 3800+ variety. Venice has a new and Improved memory controller and SSE3, I would avoid the clawhammer it had a few problems that have been fixed in later revisions of Athlon 64.

Be sure you know what you are talking about before you speak.

Socket 939 FX-53

Abit offers a socket 940 board that does not require registerd ram. Registerd and ECC are two differant things, Socket 940 requres Registerd Ram not ECC but you can USE ECC registerd if you like.

I say bullshit until you show me exactly where I can buy a WN-2S+

I'd be overclocking the fsck out of some 246's if that was actually available.

I don't know, but you may have to go to compusa and they can try to order one for you.

P.S. don't be so hostile 'ol buddy.

This whole thread is based off of this hot deal that's dead. It was for a 940 FX-53.

Be sure YOU know what you are talking about before you speak. 😛

Because OCs are not guaranteed. YMMV?

That all depends on your definition of the word "DEAD" is.
