Im looking at the fx-55 now that theyre finally affordable to me and was not sure of one thing. Do the fx cpu's require registered ram to operate or will my corsair xms pc3200 chips work fine with one? thanx

If you have a 4000+ San Diego, the only differences between it and the FX-55 are 200 MHz and unlocked upward multipliers. It is simply a 2.6 GHz San Diego, and hardly worth shelling out $370 for, when the 4000+ is now selling for $135. Overclock the heck out of your 4000+, and if it dies, buy another one cheap. It should do at least 2.7 GHz at default voltage. I'm sure there are plenty of people here who can tell you exactly what settings to use on your motherboard for a painless increase to FX-55 speeds or higher.

i think buying the fx55 for 369 (newegg) is worth it. a better deal would probably be the 4800X2 and a very small OC to 2.6ghz with give u much more power than that single core cpu.

the corsair xms ram is good, but i chose the OCZ Platinum El PC3200 ram instead because it was more popular and people were getting some good oc's with it
