Hi,

I may upgrade in the next month to a new CPU from my AMD X2 4800e, the FX6300 seems a great price/performance option for what I want to do (I have seen lot of benchmarks, and gaming is not worrying me), just the perfect balance for what I need, but I am worried about the power consumption.

The Athlon X2 4800e is a TDP 45W CPU and the FX6300 is 95W , but given the major performance differences (a much less time on the load mode) and a lot of power saving new tech for the idle modes I belive that it will actually save on the power consuption side.

Anyone can tell me if it will actually have a lower power consuption.

I know that Intel is better in this regard, but the i3 is slower than what I want for what I want and the i5 is to expensive.

Thanks.

Thanks I will see if I can go with the i5, but it is nice to know that I would be well served to in this.

If the computer is idle most of the time then the lower idle of the FX chip will make up for the high load consumption. But really, it's a difference of a few bucks so it's not that big of a deal. My wife leaves her lights on all the time and those suckers are sucking down more than 500W. A few watts here and there aren't going to make much difference. The difference in load power consumption is the equivalent of a 50W light bulb. No big deal. I don't' know why power consumption has been such an issue around here.
