"the roadmap explicitly claims that Socket 939 Semprons will show up before the end of the year"

Music to my ears. This might alter my plans for a budget rig. If these show up in December then I might build a socket 939 Sempron system and overclock it. Then I can eliminate socket 754 from my options altogether, thus simplifiying my choices. :)

icepik:

In fact, even though the roadmap explicitly claims that Socket 939 Semprons will show up before the end of the year, the only new Semprons listed are Socket M2.

Selective hearing? :) Well, I am checking around, I find it hard to imagine this is really all AMD has in store for the next 12 months.

Sounds interesting, but I don't really see anything on that list that compels me to wait instead of buying, say, an Opteron 165 within the next month and overclocking it...

Well so much for " the best gaming chip still being the single core FX series" as AMD claimed now that all new FX's will be duallies. Not that I am complaining. I would love to have an unlocked dual core chip....

IIRC, s939 Sempr0ns have been around for a while already in retail PCs.

I'm pretty sure there's a few Compaqs with s939 Sempr0ns out there.

Hey Kris, i was gonna mention what was that FX ?Manchester Core? being released in Q2 06, but noticed that you edited that out.

Quick Question is anything going on with the servers or ISP .. because Anandtech is running really slow, and I keep getting the page can not be displayed error message  its getting quite annoying when trying to post.

What about the inq's new story about the k10 getting cancelled? Is the sky falling? Should i go buy duct tape?

You should always have duct tape on hand. ;)

In any case I tend to believe that a lot of what the Inquirer says is BS, but at the same time, AMD hasn't released any new plans at all (that I've seen) except for their Socket M2 stuff, which looks to be basically just another packaging of the latest A64 cores with a few new features. Nothing that makes me want an M2 platform more than a 939 one, anyway...

Just to confirm:
I just checked one out, & yup, at least one Compaq already has a s939 Sempr0n.

CPU-Z doesn't know what it is, but the mobo is 939.

Me too, but I'll just have to settle for playing with an Opteron 144 this Monday :D

No, I saw it, but most of us are at or above 5000+ speeds already so it is nothing exciting.

Is socket M2 going to have the numbers inflated again? For instance, a 512K cache 1.8GHz A64 is a 2800+ s754, but the same core is a 3000+ s939. Is the same core going to be a 3200+ in socket M2?
