Right now i run a athlon 3800+ venice, 2gb ram, 7800 GTX. I plan to get the geforce7900 when it is out but will getting a fx 57 make a dramatic diff in framerate? Is it worth the $800? I mean if my fps is going to go under 40 it will not be worth it.

Right now, the only game i play if battlefield 2 and its expansion. I get avg of 40-60 fps at 1280x1028 all high 4xAA. Framerate does dip below 30 sometimes and even goes low as 18 in some maps. Will the fx 57 solve this issue in fps?

I can't see it possibly being worth $800. I mean, you can probably OC the 3800+ to make up most of the difference for free.

Do you still get the framerate drops if you lower the video settings (turn off AA/AF and play at a lower resolution)? If so, then it could be CPU limitation, but I'm guessing it's just the game bogging down the graphics card. BF2 is pretty hard on GPUs, especially with AA enabled.

Nope won't make huge difference. You could try for same (or less) money to get a dual-gtx setup instead, that should improve ur fps..

i never play without AA. Also just got a 19inch LCD so not willing to drop rez. At least now i know that upgrading my cpu is not worth it. I tried ocing in the past with terrible results so I avoid it now. Ill just wait for the geforce 7900 to be released. Hope that card will rape bf2.
