Is a FX 5500 128MB (with 128-bit memory) a significantly better card than a MX440 with 64MB (I think it is 128bit but not sure).

I would assume it's a better card but I'm not sure how much better. Any thoughts?

big difference in that it will play ps2.0 games

but it will not be playable on those games

dont even bother with either of those no matter how much money they cost

ill bang my head on the ground instead of take a FX5500

I have both cards sitting here for a tight budget build, just can't decide which one to use....

Why don't you get a Radeon 9550? It will outperform both in old games and will crush them both in DX9 games. It will cost you the same, just make sure not to buy the 9550 64-Bit, SE, LE or similar prefixes. If you overclock it, will be as fast as a 9600PRO

Because he's not buying a card. He allready has the two mentioned cards, and needs opinions on which to use.

Sell them both, get a cheap vanilla AGP 6600, it will be halfway decent, and should be under $50, so even if you only got $10 for each of your old cards, you still get out dirt cheap. Both the MX4, and the 5500 are *HORRIFICALLY* slow. Even for old games. Sorry.

Well if your stuck on PCI, 256mb Fx5500s are about as good as it gets(Radeon 9100 128mbs are long gone).

Got one from my moms computer, for $40 (along with a 1.4ghz pentium-S Tualatin also dirt cheap) so hopefully she can survive Vista. The best game you can play near max on one is ut2004 I believe. Hers actualy overclocked very well from 270/400ish to 320/500.

Does your mom really need Vista?

Thanks for digging up those links! Wow that Ti4200 really spanks the FX 5500. Reinforces my decision to get a vanilla 6600.

Yes and no, I want her to think her computer is alot more secure so she doesnt constantly load it up with Norton lockdown crap(and thus subjecting my poor sister to the torture) and other AOL spawned garbage.

I have a 6600 but I can also say I have a 3700+ and 2GB of RAM. I can play BF2, UT2004 and even plays demos I downloaded a couple of months ago. At least it survives. I mean, I want the new ATIs when they come out to play UT2007 but my 6600 is OK for now.
