Just a quick question about socket 939 Athlon processors. I've been using an X2 4400 for 2 years and it's served me very well. I just came across an FX-55 for cheap and I'm wondering if I'd see a significant performance boost from it. It's pretty much a trade off of dual core for a higher core clock. I do like the multi tasking ability of the dual core but I remember when the FX series went for 600 to 800 dollars. :brokenheart:

It would be silly to move from a dual core to single core at this point. Stick with your X2 4400+.

I still run a S939 San Diego, but at 3ghz, serves me quite well. Should be able to squeeze 3.2-3.3ghz out of it once I get it down to about 0C on chilled water. I'd say save your money and grab an e8400 or a q9450 once they're out. I'll be holding on to my pennies till around black friday or christmas to nab a q9450 and whatever DFI has out.

My 4800+ runs like a freakin' tank. My advice is, definitely don't get rid of the 4400.

I remember when dualcores first came out and everyone was quibbling over them, the consensus actually being that for current performance at the time single cores were faster than dual cores. Now dual core support has ramped up and quadcores have been introduced and the same argument is comign up all over again. We enthusiasts really are a fickle bunch.

To OP: keep your 4400 till you can spring for a C2D or C2Q upgrade.
