FX-55 build - Specs and Benchmarks: UPDATED MUST SEE!

hey guys,

Here it is! I built two of these this past month, this one is mine. Took along time to get everything together, especially for two and with trying to fight the high demand for certain pieces (backorders ugh). Everything is at stock speeds and I really haven't done any serious tweaking. XP Pro is in default config and all. You can't imagine how big of an improvement this is for me; until last week I was using and gaming on a Celeron 300A, 64mb Voodoo5, 256mb ram, 10 gig HD. Without further ramblings, here it is:

UPDATE!!!! FIXED MY LOW SCORES: Ok since some of you thought my scores were low I played around with some stuff and flashed the bios on my video card. Not sure exactly what did it but it seems to have made a really nice improvement. Check out the changes to the 3Dmark05 and 03 score, Aquamark, and Valve stress test. Saw some really good improvements in those I thought. I'm really happy now, before it was sorta depressing. Keep in mind this is with the 66.93 drivers, I haven't tried the 71.02 or whatever they are yet. Everything is really stable right now. Old scores will be in italics to the right of the new score.

Thoughts-

It is very fast and responsive. I load DC Final maps in ~15 secs. My friends "good" old computer took at least a minute or 2. My G/F's laptop took about 3 mins. I love browsing too, it is so fast at loading everything up. All programs load fast. HL2 is amazing and it loads and runs great. Bought HL2 silver, awesome! Need to install Doom3 just to see how it looks, the game sucks. The only thing I don't like is that a new NEC DVD came out but it isn't that much better so i'm sticking with this one. Other thing is the Tsunami case. I love thing but it is pretty annoying that the doors opens to the LEFT (WHY?!?) Other then that it is great. No problems so far and everything went together well (knock on wood).


Any mistakes i'll fix here later when I notice them or someone else does. I'll run any other test you guys would like to see also. I'll try to get some pics too.

SHOULD I UPGRADE THE NVIDIA BETA DRIVERS AND TRY THOSE? Are they faster?
 
does the 3d mark 05 score look a little low to anyone else?

I am getting 5600 on my Athlon 64 3000+ (754), gig of ram, and x800 xt (not overclocked)

I believe i've seen people with GT's (oc'ed) getting scores of 5400.

When a GT is overclocked it IS an Ultra..

They do seem a little low for an FX-55.. If your games play well, with maxed out setttings your good to go.

They do seem a little low for an FX-55.. If your games play well, with maxed out setttings your good to go.

Really? I thought the RAM was better on the Ultra along with a better cooling solution. Plus, doesn't the ultra take 2 power connectors whereas the GT takes one, meaning the Ultra will have the power it needs while an OC'ed GT may not?

The ram is just certified to run faster.

You are right that a OC'd GT may not be stable, ( same with any OC )

But if they are both stable, both running the same speeds. They are the same cards performance wise.
 
He's probably not OCing the video card yet. You should be able to hit 450/1200, right now he's at 425/1100.
Your next project will be to install the Koolance Exos AL Watercooling kit. Using that, you should be able to OC by at least 10% (220 FSB) and the highest CPU temp will only be 53C at full load.
You can probably OC by 10% right now, but your temps will be 65c at full load, which is the boarderline point, don't go past that.

My old system is a BEAST. Actually i'm keeping it around for a friend so when we play games he can play old Half-life and mods with us. It runs those great. Better than Other 500mhz+ systems I have seen

I love it man... I am blessed to be able to have a good enough job while being a student to get something like this. It has been along time coming. My old system was a dog on new stuff. Most stuff I couldn't even play.

I haven't even had time to really enjoy this system yet. Been busy working and now school is started again 🙁
 
Actually after looking at Stangs55's benchmarked (his is overclocked) my 3Dmark05 score is about right on. If it is low it is not by much.
 
Congrats on your system. I guess some people just have to have the absolute best, or the most expensive. Hopefully, your 3dMark scores will do you some good.

I'm not sure how you're 500MHz system can be 'better' than other 500MHz systems. I would think most 500MHz systems would run "HL" with ease.

hmm i wonder how slow of a michine you could run hl2 on w/ lowest possible settings

I ran hl on 300a overclocked to 450mhz, it runs it great at 800x600. I've been playing it since it came out. Runs it better than any computer I have seen that is around 300-700mhz.

I rarely see someone so confidently look like a stupid ass. My other friend runs HL on his 300mhz computer with 64mb RAM. It actually lags, it was such a bad computer. My 450mhz Cel A is a great HL machine, it will still get lots of use as a loaner machine at my LAN parties

It wasn't "the best". If I wanted to waste money I would have bought SLI. I'm proud of it though, especially since my mommy and daddy didn't buy it for me.
