FX-53 or 7900GT???

I'm looking to upgrade my cpu and/or gpu. I have a 3000+ right now and if I stick with that I'll get the 7900GT. My other option is an FX-53 and a 7600GT. Which will be better for games?

7900GT

I don't think an FX53 would be a good choice for an upgrade.

Edit: Do you have a socket 939 board?

The 7900GT would help a lot more with your framerates in games then a new CPU. You could always just overclock your 3000+ and still get the 7900.

why the hell would you waste money on an fx53? you can buy a 4000 which is the same thing for around $330.

well I can get the FX-53 for cheaper than the 7900GT, thats why its even a question (BTW I have a 939 for the guy who asked)

I'd still get the 7900GT. I wouldn't waste my money (no matter how cheap it is) on an older CPU with an older core.

I'd rather want a newer 90nm core.

The FX-53 usese the 130nm process so will used up more power as well be hotter. Your 3000+ Venice can most likely surpass FX-53 speeds anyway. Not to mention when playing with eye candy and high resolutions, it's the GPU that's your limiting factor, usually not your CPU . . .

Also for the price of a 7600GT and an FX-53 you can get yourself a 7900GT AND an Opteron 144 . . .

my a64 3000+ overclocks to 2.75ghz, which bests the FX 53

i'd rather spend my money on the 7900 gtx or x1900 xtx if you have that kinda money for fx 53??!

go for the 7900GT, it will be much more beneficial for games

The FX53 runs at 2.4 GHz, which can be done on a 3000+ with a decent mobo. If you have a good board and a 3000+ with a good stepping, you can even hit FX55 or FX57 speeds.

Grab the 7900GT. The most important factor in games will always be the video card. Besides, even if you were to upgrade your CPU, I could never recommend an FX series chip due to the price 🙂

No. Keep your 3000+ and get this instead of the 7900GT since this is cheaper and offers the same if not faster performance in most cases:

It's an X1800XT 256mb.

Can you show me a benchmark test where the 256MB version was ran against 7900GT, how about one of the OC XFXs or EVGAs.

And what about the Dual slot cooler for what is basically a even card.

Their are alot of reasons not to get that card, just like the 7900. But non of this matter since the options where a 7900 or FX-53 I did not see an option for X1800XT.
