Question FX 4100 upgrade possibilities

I'm looking to upgrade my cpu to a newer model, but I know very little about hardware.

My current set-up is:
ASUS M5A97 motherboard
AMD FX 4100 quad-core (the part I'm wanting to actually replace)
Nvidia GeForce 750 ti GPU
8 gb ram
500 gb HDD

I know it's a fairly old rig for the most part, but it's all I've got and any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated. I really just need a newer model cpu that will work in my current build.

Your board can take better/faster CPUs if your have the newer BIOS installed.

BIOS 1605 will let you instal an FX-6300 or an FX-8350 for a cheap upgrade with your current motherboard

Thanks a lot! I'll check into the latest version of the BIOS and see about getting the FX 8350. That's actually the model I was thinking of getting, but I wasn't sure how compatible it was.

I would also go with an ssd as well for an upgrade in speed
