FWIW - Burnout 3 released on Xbox Originals

This is kind of one of those WTF releases to Originals to me. Burnout 3 is so readily available in used bins that it isn't really worth the $15.

Throw in the fact that EA shutdown the Live servers for this and it really confirms for me that this isn't worth $15.

As I've said before, if they put all the hard to find Xbox games on there, I think it would be great. Psychonauts is worth a purchase for me at some point because I never see it in the used bins. Games like Halo, Crimson Skies and Burnout 3, while great, are so readily available at less that you're really just paying a large convenience fee.

It's not really that much of "WTF" release considering no one but Gamestop/EB Games make money off of sold used games. By releasing games via digital distribution they retail a lot more profits with nothing going to the brick and mortal.

I think it's a smart move on their part.

I'm not disagreeing that Originals is a smart move. Nor am I disagreeing that GS/EB are the only ones making money off of used games. I'm just saying that the price is wrong for a game that is readily available for $10 or less in store and one that no longer has online play because EA shut the servers down that support it. I think there are some other Xbox games that would have been much more suitable.

But what do I know. I'm sure there will be a lot of people that buy this just like there were a lot of people that buy the EA Madden tips.

But that's not what you were saying in your original post. You seemed to be implying that because it's already available in used bins, why should they release the game at all?

But you kind of answered your own question didnt you? I mean, since you're already aware of the used game situation in that they're "readily available in the used bins", its even more of a lure for users to DL the game via Live than drive to the store and purchase it, right?

I already addressed that in a subsequent post:

The only thing I'd buy from Xbox originals is Street Fighter Anniversary edition...if they had it.

I got Crimson Skies at GS for 2.99. No thanks M$.

Yeah, the existence of a roaring used games market definitely makes Xbox Originals a bit of a store without a market. Then again, in the long-run, Gamestop and friends will stop carrying used Xbox games, so I suppose getting this going _now_ and building up a library makes sense.

I'm still shocked that Halo 2 isn't up there.

In major nelson's latest podcast that I listened to today, he said that the EA servers are up and running just fine. Take it for what it's worth after he was wrong about the live outages.

EA has their own game specific servers.

I think that's what Queasy was referring to, that they took down the Burnout 3 server.

Yeah, it sounds like MS got EA to bring the servers back online because the Burnout 3 servers were closed back in December.

For the last week I have been in touch with EA as the Burnout 3 servers have been unavailable.

The news from EA is that the servers are closed. They have been sunsetted to make space for newer titles.

Burnout 3 is due to be available for download on Xbox 360 as an Xbox Original from the 4th of December. Before you pay 1200 MS points be warned - You will not be able to play Burnout 3 online.
