Damn it, just recieved the following with about five FW's in the subject. Are people still this dumb? I would email them back and rip into them, but it came from my church's email list, I just don't have the heart.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THIS TOOK TWO PAGES OF THE TUESDAY USATODAY - IT IS FOR REAL

Subject: PLEEEEEEASE READ!!!! it was on the news!

Coordinator Phone: 765/771 - 3547 Pager : 765/420 - 6575

To all of my friends, I do not usually forward messages, But this is
from my good friend Pearlas Sandborn and she really is an attorney.

If she says that this will work - It will work. After all, What have
you got to lose? SORRY EVERYBODY.. JUST HAD TO TAKE THE CHANCE!!! I'm
an attorney, And I know the law. This thing is for real. Rest assured
AOL and Intel will follow through with their promises for fear of
facing a multimillion-dollar class action suit similar to the one filed
by PepsiCo against General Electric not too long ago.

Dear Friends; Please do not take this for a junk letter. Bill Gates
sharing his fortune. If you ignore this, You will repent later.
Microsoft and AOL are now the largest Internet companies and in an
effort to make sure that Internet Explorer remains the most widely used
program, Microsoft and AOL are running an e-mail beta test

When you forward this e-mail to friends, Microsoft can and will track
it ( If you are a Microsoft Windows user) For a two weeks time period.

For every person that you forward this e-mail to, Microsoft will pay
you $245.00 For every person that you sent it to that forwards it on,
Microsoft will pay you $243.00 and for every third person that receives
it, You will be paid $241.00. Within two weeks, Microsoft will contact
you for your address and then send you a check.

Regards. Charles S Bailey General Manager Field Operations

I thought this was a scam myself, But two weeks after receiving this
e-mail and forwarding it on. Microsoft contacted me for my address and
withindays, I receive a check for $24,800.00. You need to respond
before the beta testing is over. If anyone can affoard this, Bill gates
is the man.

It's all marketing expense to him. Please forward this to as many
people as possible. You are bound to get at least $10,000.00. We're not
going to help them out with their e-mail beta test without getting a
little something for our time. My brother's girlfriend got in on this a
few months ago. When i went to visit him for the Baylor/UT game. She
showed me her check. It was for the sum of $4,324.44 and was stamped
"Paid in full"

Like i said before, I know the law, and this is for real.

Intel and AOL are now discussing a merger which would make them the
largest Internet company and in an effort make sure that AOL remains
the most widely used program, Intel and AOL are running an e-mail beta
test.

When you forward this e-mail to friends, Intel can and will track it(
if you are a Microsoft Windows user)for a two week time period.

TRy it; What have you got to lose????

Christ, if you want Bill Gates to give you $245 write him a letter. He probably will.

I've always though about that..ask Bill Gates to loan you a million dollars. Put it in the bank for however many years until he's about to die, pay him back, collect interest! 😀

BAN

If you motion to ban said people from the internet, I'm all for it. Although unfortunately thats about as possible as Bill Gates' email tracking 🙂

It's possible, just sue and topple AOL -- said idiots are now eliminated.

is that guy RETARD? damn....I am still waiting for my money! holy sh1t, I forwarded to 10 people and that is $2,450 total! I hope I can get the money before microsoft kill it!

:|:|:|

Man I used to get that crap all the time from no techie friends. Then they would do a follow up to see if I am going to cash in like they are. I'm glad people are starting to get smarter abnout this stuff.

I deal with those kind of people this way:

1) Send a snopes link back explaining why they should not send me that crap.

2) If they send it again, I again point them at the snopes link and tell them not to send me that crap again or I will be forced to blacklist them.

3) If they send it again, I blacklist them.

So far, I've only had to do #3 a few times in the past few years. I've had to do #2 more often than I care to admit. Some people just want to act dumb.

Just junk filter them. If they send it to 200 people trying to get $$$, and they all put them into gmail's junk mail filter system, they won't be able to send many more emails 🙂

lol there must a rash of this stuff going on. A friend of mine txt the following message on AIM last night

XXXXXXXXX(12:07:33 AM): Dear AIM users,Because of our overloading of our servers, we are being forced to extract our non-active AIM users. Because this is a free service, AOL has exceeded the budget for the AIM service. We are asking that you send this exact message to 20 other AIM users to ensure us that you're an active AIM user. Our system tracking devise will pick up this message to keep you on our active list. You have 72 hours to complete this task or your service will be cancelled immediately. Starting January 1st, 2005, we will be charging a small fee for registering of a screen name for AIM. Thank you for your time and for using AOL or AIM.

I was kind of annoyed that she sent me that waste of a IM.
