Fvcking Unappreciated at Work

so, this morning at work i have a meeting at 8 in the morning. basically, i've been working on this project with a coworker (who is senior to me) for about 1 month. i've done approx 80% of the work and i am thoroughly knowledgeable of all of the results/procedures used/etc..

the meeting this morning was global - all the managing directors from different offices around the world participated in this meeting. at the end of the meeting, the MDs have decided to hold their own meetings within their groups to discuss the results of this project. they proceed to ask my coworker, "jay, will you be available to meet at the end of the month when we each have our group meetings?"

of course, he will be on vacation at the end of this month, and once he says this, all the MDs are suddenly sad. NO ONE references me in any of this stuff and i feel like sh!t. seriously, who the fvck do these ppl think they are? i am so fvcking pissed and this really sucks. stupid assh0les.

i'll be happy when i quit.

i sent my boss (who is a woman and NO i do not have pics) the following email:

Hi [Boss],

I just wanted to let you know that I would be available to meet with any of the groups to discuss the project output should Jay not be available (or if another opinion is welcome/necessary). Unfortunately, I will not be on vacation.

go stand up for yourself. say "excuse me, but i contributed tremendously to this project and i want to represent myself (not jay)"

or quit. those guys sound like real big idiots. 🙁 i'm sorry.

Want some free advice on how to succeed in the business world ?

Make yourself noticed. You need to speak up, make sure they know who you are... Don?t ride the boat and wait for them to see you, be aggressive and speak up. When he say's "I'll be away on Vacation" you need to speak up and mention that you are very knowledgeable with the information as you have been working on the project from the get-go, you can supply all information required and there is no need for the meeting to be cancelled while your co-worker is on vacation.

Sooner rather then later, they will realize who you are, that you are in the same situation, and soon they will be sad that you are going on vacation... 🙂

gotta put yourself out there. I remind my coworkers and bosses of my sheer greatness on a regular basis, just in case they forget 😉

I am about ready to kill my bosses, though. me and another guy in my department started on exactly the same day, at exactly the same level. he and I work together 3 days a week, and on all three days, he has better hours than me :| I'm also getting shafted by having to work Friday night, Saturday night, and Sunday afternoon. gotta put a stop to that (ie: burn the place down).
 
Working for some one else is equivilient to being someone's b!tch.

Get over it. As long as you don't run a business, this will ALWAYS occur no matter how far upthe chain you are.

 
yea i guess i could've said something during the meeting.

it was strange though. i've been here for a year now and i'm not standing for this bullsh!t. i think i'll send an email to the big boss lady at work, telling her that i will be available in my coworkers' stead. jay doesn't need to know i'm sending it.

no, its not that he has it figured out, its that he's been working here for 2 more years than i have.

everyone in my department is a guy, and they're all very, very ugly. heh.
 
Too little information to choose your side. Just because you do a lot of work and know things does not mean you would be able to contribute to a meeting in the same way the other guy could. He might be significantly better at explaining things to people, organizing requirements, appeasing users, pragmatic assessments, etc.

Sounds like you are pretty antagonistic from this forum alone. "unfortunately" in your alleged email is passive aggressive. I'd probably rather have the 20%er in my meeting too, based on your posts. Doing high volume and/or quality of work while having an attitude problem is a sure way to be "underapprciated". I say that from personal experience.
 
It's pretty sellfish of your coworker not to have referenced you in the meeting once he declared he was unavailable. coworker = scumbag. And yes, you really should've spoken up.

i definitely do not have an attitude problem. i've always been pleasant to work with.

the problem here is my passive nature. i think i tend to stay quiet because i'm the "newest" member of the team. although the email is passive agressive, i think it was a step in the right direction. i do realize that i should have said something during the meeting, but since i missed my opportunity, i feel i did the next best thing.
