I am beyond pissed...so please excuse my anger and language.

being the lotr fan that I am, I went to fvcking lordoftherings.net site and d/led the fvcking lotr browser which is a customized neoplanet POS browser with a POS LOTfvckingR skin. i installed the piece of crap and then when i restarted this stupid computer, my fvcking screen fvcked up!!! it is now in 16 color at 600x480 resolution!!! i noticed my 3drx tray manager (driver v1.06) was gone so instead of resetting the resolution via 3drx voodoo hub, the first thing i tried was right click on the desktop and then in settings, switch back to 16bit color @ 1200x768 resolution. tried that and it prompted me to restart my sh!tty comp which I did..btw, i've changed my resolution before and win98 never prompted me to restart, only wait 15 secs.

restarted, still the fvcking same ugly-ass color and resolution. so i tried to manually start the voodoo hub/manager/driver program/fvcked up sh!t and it won't start. so i uninstalled the fvcking lotr crap along with the voodoo drivers. restarted then reinstalled the voodoo driver...NOTHING FVCKING CHANGED!!! pleeease help me, I can't stand this ugly ass screen.
:|:(

Being an LOTR fan myself, I can understand your irritation in trusting that anything you might download from that site would be of superior quality. I can empathize with you regarding your current predicament, but unfortunately the only solution I have is something you more than likely don't want to hear. But my next question will probably give you a hint: Do you have all the software you'll need to reformat the HD, and re-install everything from scratch? Sometimes that is the only truly comfortable way of curing corruption.....:(

I've reformatted the HD several times on both of mine, it's not that big of a deal.......just time-consuming. -kd5-

I'm not talking about just installing it over the old one. You have to uninstall your drivers, go to vga, and then install it. You may need to delete some inf files on your inf folders, because that bitch windows will keep looking at that inf folder.

The funny thing is, a friend of mine is having the same problem.. but that's an 8MB ATI.

Step 1. Take a deep breath
Step 2. Calm down

Now that you're ready to tackle this from a rational perspective....

Try rebooting.
Try uninstalling/reinstalling the voodoo driver.
Make sure that the lotr browser is OFF the system completely.
Check for any possible conflicts.
Reboot again for good measure.
Fiddle around with settings.
Face the possibility that you may have to format and try and back up as much stuff as possible
Next time you do format, consider breaking up your drive into 2 so that you have a bakup drive.

I wish I could be more helpful, but I'm at a loss. Maybe one of the others can offer a better suggestion. Just play around with it and try and get things back to normal. Also if you're really stumped, try calling voodoo tech support.

the problem is that I don't know what's still left from the lotr browser install.

ssp, what exactly did your friend do..did he do the exact same thing I did? I think I made lotr my "desktop" (it was some obscure option and I don't think I unchecked that option..but the uninstall should have undid that :|)

Here is what i woudl do.

Unistall the drivers.
Delete the inf files related to 3dfx
remove any mention of 3dfx from registry
reboot your pc, point it to folder with the lastest V3 3k drivers install reboot.

Lets see if that works

Why don't you just do an overlay install of Windows? Just reinstall windows on your computer, all your settings will be preserved (except what icons you have on your desktop and little default things) and it should be back to normal.
