fvcking ebay. am I in the wrong?

Shawn

Lifer
i bid on an auction a while back. I was outbid so I purchaced the merchandise elsewhere. then the idiot who outbid me retracts his bid and leaves me the highest bidder. I e-mail the selling explaining the situation and ask if he can cancel my bid. he tells me I have to do it but of course ebay doesn't let me since too much time elapsed. so I won the auction.

I don't plan on paying him for something I already bought. now he's threating to go to ebay. well he can go right ahead. I doubt he'll give me negative feedback because I would just give him one right back ruining his rating.

still I know it's not his fault but it's not my fault either. he could have at least canceled my bid for me. I gave him plenty of time to do so. I don't think bidders should be able to cancel their own bids at all, only the sellers. it would keep crap like this from happening.

i dont think anyone could cancel within the last 12 hours. you should've retracted your bid also when you decided to go elsewhere.

of course you are not in the wrong but still

You win, you buy

ALthough most reasonable sellers wouldn't force the issue and realize taht mistakes are made...

and he has to go to ebay to recover his final value fees

retracting my bid would have lowered the final price of the auction. didn't see any reason to do so since I was not the highest bidder.

I don't see how anyone could reasonably expect you to be required to purchase this item. Regardless, the worst your going to get is a negative feedback...and considering the turd pile ebay is these days its not like you're going to be missing out on much.

Hardass seller.

Last time it happened to me it was on a car. The seller was very understanding and did not hold it against me.

the proble is that "I was outbid so I purchaced the merchandise elsewhere", usually I waited until the auction ends before looking elsewhere.
however, maybe he was using another account trying to get the bids up.

wait a minute..... if you can't cancel your bid within the last 12 hours, how did the highest bidder cancel his bid with less than 2 hours to go? would that mean the seller would have had to have done it?

Yeah. If it is a low ticket item, swallow it and buy it. Maybe you can find a second-hand buyer real fast if you post it. That and :sprite;.

According to eBay policy... your bid is your contract until the end of the auction. If someone else retracts their bid and leaves you as the high bidder when auction ends, that makes you responsible to conclude the transaction as per your contractual bid.

it sucks... it is stupid... but that is eBay's rules.

that's wrong, the seller has to cancel the bid.

next time, get a buying account and selling account. if the seller decided to be a dick, give him a negative feedback. 🙂
