Tell me things to say... apparently some girl rejected him and he won't tell us who... and he's saying he'll kill himself now etc etc...

He's far. I have no access to a car. He might be kidding, he's been doing this for a while.
 
Someone I know threatened to kill himself b/c I wouldn't date him...

I was on the phone for 5 hours crying..trying to convince him not to do it. He says it's too late..his wrists are already slashed...Parents come in..told me it's late..and that i should just ignore him. If he wants to die..then that's his problem.not mine.


2 weeks later..i bump into him at the library..and his wrists are fine. Bastard tried to play on my sympathies to get me to stay with him.

Why on earth are you telling this person to call the cops?!?!?!?!? I've been very suicidal before, and I've attempted it... I know at least in Ohio, suicide is no longer illegal. The police are encouraged to attempt prevention, but it is not a crime and cannot be intervened upon by law enforcement agencies. Furthermore, someone did call the cops one time while I was suicidal, and the IDIOT sheriff came out immediately and gave me a lecture on obeying my parents, of all things... Unfortunately, I wasn't attempting it at the moment, or I would have sped it up. The sheriff had his lights and sirens on, the whole bit. I could hear him coming a mile away. The police are the LAST people to call. I would try the local hospital or some such place, they normally have suicide hotlines, and some of them will call people to check on them, try to talk them out of it, etc.

Huh? Native Sunshine, I vividly recall that you said in another thread (in regards to this story) that you weren't with him in the first place! So why the above statement? You do know that could mislead one to think that you were mutually together before you broke it off.

In any case, in regards to the original post: That's so vague. I wonder if your friend is joking too. You don't seem to know your friend any more than we do, which is sad. I would think that you would have an idea of whether or not your friend is that depressed to the extent of wanting to kill himself. I wonder how he met this lady. I won't be surprised if he didn't meet her the conventional way. . . . Best of luck to your friend and you if decide that it's a true alarm.
