Blah.. why does Microsoft still employ ancient mediums?

I've got a flash memory stick and a USB key sitting next to me and I need to format my hard drive (without the original CD). Unfortunately none of their boot disk programs will allow me to write to the usb key or the flash memory stick and no one around me has 6, SIX!!!! Floppies!

Damn you microsoft. You're progressive with everything else.. step into the 21st century with your boot mediums!

Try booting to a CD. Microsoft is in this century, thank you very much.

(The technical complexities of booting from USB media are not insignificant.)

I have a whole box of floppies, I bought them the last time I had to make the stupid 6 disk boot program.

I threw away a box of about 150 floppies last week. I kept about 10 just for the hell of it, but I imagine it won't be long before those go too. Haven't had a floppy drive hooked up for about a year.

USB = drivers... which aren't loaded if you aren't in windows.

Unless its an ancient system, it can boot by cd rom.

And I mean really ancient, or the its a user problem.

Yup... exactly the same here. I have droves of them, but most of them are dead.

Well, maybe 30-40% or so....

It was a dark day when AOL started sending out CDs instead of floppies. They were my main supplier.

Huh? What do you mean by that? Why do you need six floppies, anyway? If your goal is merely to format that shouldn't be necessary, right?

even win98 boots from cd.

or if you are that far into the future, go burn a cd with the same system files as a boot disk. msdos.sys, command.com, etc etc
