So I have this problem in Windows XP SP1 where Windows Explorer will not automatically refresh when renaming/copying/moving a file on a network share. Microsoft's KB says this is a known problem and that there is a hot fix available. So I call up support to get that hot fix...

After some lengthy troubleshooting I'm told that they won't send me the hot fix unless I call "Pro" support first. Well, fvck that, I ain't paying $200+ for a hot fix!

While this problem is annoying, I can wait for SP2.

Oh, and they didn't even have an ETA on the next SP! :|

ETA on SP2 is quite a ways out yet, while I don't have an exact date most sites are reporting Q3 of 2004.

I've never had a problem getting a hotfix for an issue, always told them that I am experiencing the defined symptoms, and want the patch. They never asked for credit card information, and never required me to do troubleshooting. Tell them you are a professional and you've already done the troubleshooting, and you want the hotfix!

I did tell them that, and it got me nowhere...

I mean, come on, all the hot fix calls for is replacing a single DLL file, and then making some modifications to the registry. I even told the guy I would back up everything before applying the hot fix, just to make him feel better.

Maybe TheToOTaLL, you can call for me and get me the file? Since you're all powerful and stuff... 😛
